Dota 2 finally released

Two years ago, Valve began development on Dota 2, the sequel to the Warcraft III mod Dota, which revolutionized gaming and introduced the MOBA/ARTS/some convoluted acronym genre. The sequel, which has been in beta for these two years, has become an instant hit already, becoming a staple of the genre. Now, after all these years, the game is finally being officially released.

From today onwards the game is no longer in beta, it's now an official release. Although to be fair, "closed beta" was a rather loose term for the game, as anyone could buy "beta access" through the Steam store and everyone cared about a million passes to the game as well. However if you somehow didn't get gifted a pass or bought one, now you can just download the game for free.

The game is free-to-play but all heroes are accessible from the beginning, the only paid items are cosmetic and do not affect how the game is played.

The learning curve is a bit steep and the challenge is difficult, but if you think you're up for one of the more hardcore competitive games in recent history, why not give it a shot?

EDIT; Oh I presume our excuse for not playing DOTA 2 above LoL? Well my excuse/the one many others have is that everyone plays LoL, not DOTA2. I literally have 20 friends playing LoL, half of them I know IRL that play LoL, and only 2 people that play DOTA2.

Yeah that's actually my real excuse for playing League. I've got more friends who play League and 0 who play Dota. I'm still downloading it to give it a try though.

Should I give this ago or return to GW?...Hmmm Last time I tried guild wars 2 after a 2 month break, I was hammered with all these changes they made to the game, couldn't get myself back into it.

EDIT: This will be the last DOTA game you see for a long time. Value still can't count to 3.

As long as they do balance updates and the occasional new hero and things no one would want a Dota 3 anyway. Unless they were to remake it with Source 2...
