Dokapon Kingdom: Connect gets localization on Switch this spring

Idea Factory International is bringing Dokapon Kingdom: Connect over to the west. This marks the first localization of the series in quite some time, as the last entry to get an official English translation was 2008's Dokapon Journey, for the Nintendo DS. Dokapon Kingdom: Connect is a remaster of Dokapon Kingdom, a multiplayer board game with RPG elements. This remaster also features online play, which will allow up to 4 players to play versus over the internet. Dokapon Kingdom: Connect will release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch sometime this Spring.

I'm sure it's a cheap cash-in, but this and Fortune Street would be such obvious switch releases that I'm pretty disappointed in Square for not having bothered. I guess because they don't think sales would warrant the effort of building new boards for the Mario side (for DQ they could just reuse the fan favorites from the PS4 game), to say nothing of having to translate all of the character dialogue again.

Ah yes, one of the few games able to compete with Mario Party in terms of relationships ended.
Compete??? I've seen lifelong friends not talk to eachother for months over this game. This is the end all be all shit starter. Start your game as a thief and watch your friends talk shit for weeks, choose the demon lord option and they'll do it for years!

Another day, another port...

That being said, I always kick myself for not picking up a disc-only copy of the game for Wii for $30. It's now outrageously expensive. Maybe this will drive down the price...that'd be nice (though not likely).

I haven't watched (nor obviously played) the Wii version but this doesn't seem like it has much (if anything?) in terms of improvements outside of online.

Oh it's just a port....
Got my hopes up for nothing...

I was hoping it was at least the new game with the Utawarerumono characters, even if it's kinda sucky.

I already play this on Doplhin every now and then with upscaled graphics/HD textures.

From the trailer, there is nothing new other than online play (which you can already do on PC).
This is purely a cash grab.

Amazing news for those who don't emulate though.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
