Hacking does anyone have r4 problems?

does any one have any problems or cautions i should be aware of before purchasing an r4 ds? i previously had a mmd and games n music. both just stoppped working leaving me on two occacions without a movie/mmp3 player. i want to know before i get one what im dealing with. i know its simple and preloaded with moonshell and runs most mods. Problems, anyone?

R4's are very reliable. Only problem was with the older version the springs in the microSD slot would occasionally break.

I use it since September and I love it. Though I have never tried to watch movies on my DS, only mp3s to test this feature.
The only problem I have is to get some Homebrew to run, but I have not invested too much time into it yet.

I have mine since February, and I never had any problem with it. I'd recommend it to anyone who wanted a slot 1 card.

I've had mine for almost a year now with no issues. In any case, the latest batch of R4 should have fixed up all the physical issues (like the spring) so you don't have much to worry about.

Funny, my spring on my r4 never broke after many many MANY times of pushing my microSD in and out, sometimes just for fun

Same here. It NEVER broke for me.

I use the springless version now, so no biggie.

so its just a freakin spring problem? ill live. so what kinds of micro sd card work the best? like the kingston card that comes with the r4 on the amazon website?

Springs breaking is the only real problem. I just pull my SD out instead of springing it to make sure it won't break. Though, there have been some instances where I had to spring it in since just sliding it didn't make it go all the way in.

every once in a while, if i don't touch my DS for days - it will have issues booting the R4 Loader. i have to power it off and on a few times. sometimes removing it, and the SD card repeatedly gets it to work.

and occasionally when it does this - the skin reverts to the default.

i've had mine maybe 2 months. i have the newer shell without the spring.

I've had a R4 for a year now, and havent had any real big problems, except that the spring stopped working 2 weeks after i purchased it. bummed out, i opened it up, researched it through google and fixed it. Havent had a spring problem ever again and since then i bought 2 more. Very happy customer... although the cyclods is starting to catch my attention...i'll wait and see...

Sounds like me, except I did my research on YouTube and did not buy an other R4s. I'm having trouble deciding over a Cyclo or an M3 Real, but I'm now leaning for the M3.

i had the 'spring' problem after about 1 month, but sliding it out with fingernail seems safer to me anyway. no big deal, until today. after about 9 months now my R4 only boots about 75%. sometimes it's just a black screen, and i need to eject, and repeat. could be the microsd or the R4 contacts. my 2nd R4 still works perfectly, spring as well!

I've had mine for about 7 months so far I've had to fix the spring twice, but also i had a problem with it not booting up all the time and this seemed to be relating some freezing while playing (it corrupted 2 micro SD cards) but once I figured it was probably a contact problem I lined the front sticker of the card with electrical tape to make the contacts tighter against the DS (I noticed the R4 was slightly thinner than a normal DS card).I haven't had the problem since then that was 4 months ago. So besides fully corrupting one of my Jpn kingston 1gb micro sd cards I haven't had any real issues and would recommend it to anyone.

Sometimes my R4 freezes when I start to play games. Also When I close my DS sometimes the game just closes by itself. >.
