Gaming Do you wait for a game to come out in your region?

I was wondering if you waited for a rom to be released in your region before playing it and getting deep into it. For example if you live in the states and a European version of a game you want to play comes out will you just test the waters until it comes out in the states or will you just go for it and play it and not even pay attention to the version that comes out in your region

Stupidly I usually test the waters with a game and then go into it fully when it comes to my region and I really have no sane reason why.

As long as I understand the langage I don't care.
In Europe lot of games are released several months after the US.
So I don't see why I should wait...

But for some heavy-text games I prefer to wait because it's give me a headache to think In english when I try to play in my bed before sleep.

As long as it has English as a selectable language, I don't care what region it's from. But if sometime down the line the US version gets released, then I'll grab that if the game was worth bothering with in the first place.

I'll always choose the US version over the PAL version. If PAL is the only option, then I'll usually hesitate, and then play the game - making a mental note to get the US version when it comes out.

For some reason I'm just obsessive compulsive about having my roms be from US. I can't explain it.

I wait with playing until I can understand a game. That means the English version most of the time because few games get released in German earlier/at the same time. However, sometimes the Japanese version is ok, as with Ouendan 2. These days I wait with buying until a game is actually available in the store, if that possibility exists. I'm importing Ouendan 2, of course (though I'll probably play it on my flashcard) but I was much more import crazy a year ago.

I'm dutch and the major part of PAL games don't contain any dutch language. So i just take the first game that has the english language, which most of the time is USA.
I also want to rant about the late releases of PAL games in my country.
We dutch folks learn english at an age of 10 years, but most people in countries like france and spain are just to darn lazy to even bother learning english! Now I have to wait for some stupid translation of a game that i won't even use just because of those lazy bastards. Just damn annoying.

I feel exactly the same way! Waiting months for the game to come out in Europe when it was already translated just because French and Spanish people to seem lose their genitals if they happen to read a word that isn't written in their language pisses me off. Hell, even on those extremely rare cases where the game is also available in Portuguese, I usually play the English version.

Why can't they just release the English version for the European countries that won't get a translation at the same time (or a couple of weeks of difference) of the US release? In games like Pokémon, they even have different cartridges for each language, so I just don't know why the fuck don't they do that. Countries that get the English language version regardless shouldn't have to be delayed just because of a couple of other countries that get their own translation.

Also, there is no PAL games for the DS. The DS is not a TV.

That being said, when both the U and E releases are available, I pick the E version. But if I can only find the U version, I don't bother searching (much less waiting) for the E one.

I normally don't wait. Although I'm Portuguese/Italian, I lived in the UK for 7 years, so I understand English perfectly.

I usually don't wait for the game to come out in Europe. I usually grab the US version, as I actually prefer American English over British.

I even played the JP version of Pokemon Diamond (though I didn't understand a thing, lol!), and got the Legacy US rom as soon as it came out. It works with my Euro version of Ruby (Pal Park). Strangely, I bought an American version of Leafgreen in Portugal. It works awesome too, so I see no reason to wait.

I only own three EUR DS games and all of them came out here before the US release.
I usually go for US games because they come out sooner and are cheaper.

Some mediocre Japanese aside the only languages I understand well enough that games are really ever released in are English and French so I go with whatever has those.

As PAL and NTSC do not exist for handhelds whatever is first, smallest or has a hack/fix or two becomes my choice.

PC does not have it either but consoles I more often than not favour NTSC releases: too many shoddy PAL conversions (DVD, video, games....) have put me off for life.

Eyebrows tend to get raised though when the only just start advertising games on TV and people that know me recognise them from several months prior though.

I imported the US version of nsmb and when I gave my friend a go he was all "meh". But as soon as the UK advertising kicked in he was shit-hot for it. Idiot

US versions, they're cheaper (even after postage) and I get them sooner. In fact by the time we get a release of a game here, its on special offer on Play Asia e.g. Star Fox DS is £7 for a US version but £26.99 for a EUR version.

Only bought one DS game this year though (saving for the forthcoming Spawn of Hadrian) and that was Puzzle Quest only £15 from Amazon. That Kirbys Magical Paintbrush and Mario Kart are the only EUR games I have, and Mario Kart came free.

Not sure whether to get Pokemon Diamond or not, perhaps I might wait until its cheap on import.

I won't pay more than £20 for a DS title so I buy stuff in sales or preowned and thus always wind up with European stuff about a year after release. My debit card isn't good for buying stuff outside the UK anyway. For downloads I'll just wait for something in English. If both U and E were available I used to go for the Europe version, but now if it doesn't have multiplayer I'll get the US one because they're smaller.

I live in the US, so naturally I -try- to get US roms. I will play PAL/JPN roms only if the game hasn't been released here in the states yet (or never will) and is in English. I wish I could read japanese
