Hacking do you have to unplug the ribbon?

No you don't Just unplug the power connector. leave the ribbon cable in place and flip the drive.

What's so hard about disconnecting a cable?

If you can't disconnect a cable, it may be unwise to solder your Wii.

Once you do it, you'll realize it is extremely easy and safe to do.
Just slip your finger nail under the grey clip, on the ribbon side, then flip it up. Do not use sharp tools to do it.
Once flipped up, the cable slides out without a problem and it is very easy to put back.

when i did mine I thought it opened a different way, once i pushed it, it snapped.

oh, and i modded my wii no problems, thanks tho ;p
