Hardware Do photos taken with 3DS fill the full screen ?

I was just wondering...

3DS' camera is 640x480 (pixel aspect 4:3 - like the old, "square" TVs).
3DS' top screen is 400x240 per eye (pixel aspect 16:10 - like widescreen laptops).

It must mean that photos shot with 3DS' camera do not fill the screen from edge to edge ?
Or they are cropped ? Or letterboxed ?

Photos taken through AR games are 400x240, but photos taken with the camera program are 640x480.
I beleive the top and bottom of the 640x480 images are cropped when being displayed on the 3DS.
