Disgaea and FFT are complete different forms of the same type of gameplay. FFT is a more serious extremely deep storyline. Disgaea is a good comedy. Disgaea is unique in the lift ability and the random dungeon generator.

The depth of FFT is pretty deep in terms of gameplay. I remember when it first came out and people unlocked the calculator ability, that was pretty deep with a extremely hard setup for understanding how the game mechanics work.

For the GBA, I thought FFTA failed on many levels, it really made everything easier in terms of characters, I was able to win every battle without losing a single guy, and yet annoying as hell with the stupid laws, which they are supposedly getting rid of in FFTA2. I thought Tactics Ogre outshine FFTA by a lot. The TO was fun and engaging. Trying to get all the emblems was pretty fun.

If I recalled FFTA was a Square game as well, and riding on the coat tails of FFT. In fact, to boaster up FFTA2, they made the main character for that game a "secret" character for the PSP FFT.

Never been a big fan of the Shining games or the Fire Emblem games so I can't compare those with these games. If you guys get a chance though, try Dragon Force for the Saturn (been ported to the PS2 as part of a Saturn collection). Highly underrated, and extremely hard game to find.

What characters do you guys use in your early parties? I'm still very early in my game as I've been too busy to play.

So far I've got Laharl, Etna, a Healer and I dunno about the rest.

Thinking of a fighter, mage and theif (When available).

create a team like this

Laharl - Sword
Etna - Spear
Prinny - He is a god end game
Fire Mage - Staff
Cleric - Bow
Warrior - Sword, or Axe or Spear
Fighter - Fists
Rogue - Gun
Archer - Bow
Ronin - Axe

most story character you will get suck IMO Flonne is ok but soo weak

PRISM RANGGGGGGGGGERS !

I'm going to have to give my Cleric a bow, never used them in my previous play throughs of the game.

@ Prism Rangers, they crack me up hard.

Yeah I didn't really use many story characters in my other games.

Since you only get EXP for kills, you want to get pupils for your cleric ASAP preferably mage-types, that way your cleric is a walking ball of destruction and can give a breeze of healing goodness. You'll also want go get a fighter and brawler ASAP to unlock a thief, as this will help much later on down the road when you want to get ultimate items. Then just work towards getting the unlockable classes

I bought Disgaea for the PS2 but somehow, I always kept thinking that this was a game more suited for a handheld so I didn't get far. Now I'm enjoying it a lot more on the PSP.

Questions, what's the easiest way to level up in the beginning since I always seem to be struggling and I have to keep relying on Laharl. Also I still don't understand the Geosystem.

You make it sound so awesome. Never really saw the glitter of S-RPGs; Fire Emblem was the only one and only because I rather enjoyed Advance Wars. Tried FFT last year but it was too slow for my tastes.

I have never touched Disgaea before. Are the tutorials easy enough to get so that I can blast through w/o the need of an FAQ? I hate reading FAQs.

The geosystem is a way to get the bonuses and can turn the tide of battle. The geosystem also works against you. The most important geo is the invincibility one, you can take advantage of it and the level stacking of enemies to power level your guys. I'm pretty sure there is one in the story mode where the whole field except for 2 squares are invincible by stacking all the enemies into one super hard enemy and killing it nets a ton of exp.

For leveling, just replay some of the lower level storylines battles until you can get to the item world then take advantage of floors that generate an invincibility geo.

Also, no clerics do not get exp for healing in Disgaea 1. They do in the sequel, but in the first one, it's all about killing blows or team attacks that result in a killing blow.

I knew it would be a decent wait before it came out here, Ill pick up a copy when it comes out.

However in the meantime I'm going to be playing with an ISO.

I have been playing this pretty much non-stop from launch day.

I even held off on downloading it when it was leaked so I could get the whole "just bought a game" feel. Between this and Castlevania, its been a very good run of things on the PSP side.

And just because it was covered earlier, I have always felt the FFT, while very good, is also horribley overrated. I am much more excited to have Disgaea on the system myself between the two.

Now if one of my handhelds could just get a new Tactics Ogre game I would be set.
