can anyone give me some feedback on disc repair services. i know a shop that puts your disc in a machine and it cleans it ( thats what they say) does it really work. they even have advertised it gets rid of scratches.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A local video rental shop here has one of those disc buffing machines, and it's had mixed success fixing DVDs.

You can get bottles of disc repair fluid that you use to buff out the scratches. It's about $7 a bottle at my local rip-off shop. It also comes in single serving packets for a buck or so. I've had just as much success with the repair fluid as the buffing machine.

I don't know if they even sell them anymore, but stay away from the disc doctor/DVD doctor/CD doctor. It's this plastic jiggy that grinds a thin layer of plastic off of the disc to remove the scratches. It works (to the same extent that the other choices work) but it fucks the discs up at the same time, making them very hard for most drives to read.
