Helpme you and I went through the same crap at the same time. I bought my AK2 and I made about 2 or 3 threads more or less related to my disappointment on AK2's slowdown, and last night my AK2 died with the exact same error as yours did.
I am currently pursuing a request to have DealExtreme replace mine, when did you buy yours? The issue is that around the time we bought ours there was a bad batch of AK2s which would break down sooner or later. Yours just did, like mine did last night. And to think I was just about to buy an ADATA and solve my slowdown problem once and for all.
Man I feel for ya. I'm in the same poop that you're in right now, and if it helps you to know I am pursuing this issue further on the official forums, demanding to know what is broken and how it may be fixed cause I don't like the idea of waiting another month for the whole return/replace cycle, especially via Hong Kong post which sucks.
If I come up with any answers from 'em I'll remember you and post here okay? But don't get your hopes high as chances are I won't come up with jack.
Helpme I have one question I'd like you to answer: WHEN your cart broke down with FAT Error, HOW LONG BEFORE that had you last taken the microSD out and put it back in? I'm trying to determine if it's a mechanical connection failiure or something else, as the AK forums say it's caused by a "bad connection" in the cart but refuse to give details, I dun wanna sound too optimistic but MAYBE all there is to it is the slot not connecting to the microSD? I had removed my microSD out of the slot 5 minutes before it broke so I'm thinking maybe we can come up with something on our own?
EDIT: Another thing I found out is that popping the cart out during Loading quickens the FAT Error. The Loading before the error usually lasts 1 1/2 seconds, if pulled out at any moment before that time the FAT Error ensues, so this does indeed go according to them, that the cart chip data is loaded into memory and then attempts to read off the cart, if the cart disconnects during that time it results in a FAT Error much quicker, so the error itself is an indicator of bad connectivity. Also, with or without the memory in the FAT Error takes the same 1 1/2 seconds to start. My guess is it's not even TRYING to connect to it.
I opened up my AK2, on the metal cage which houses the microSD reads the serial number 070306TA, anyone know from what number forth healthy units are produced?
