Older video game console and home computers generated a nonstandard NTSC or PAL signal which placed both fields on top of each other.

While nonstandard signals were common, i.e. using slightly different horizontal or vertical refresh rates, only outputting one field type fits within the defined standard & was in practise long before people had computers or video games in their own homes.
Outputting identical odd/even frames is different to only outputting even frames, the first is referred to as double strike (Amiga modes had names that started with DBL) while the latter is generally referred to as non interlaced.

As 240p over component is different to 240p over composite (or non interlaced), your tv might support one but not the other.

*Sigh* It seems to be that way, and like I said before, the Sony Bravia at my house displays the game just fine; I just so happen to have enough bad luck to have a TV that doesn't support this game's native resolution. Why Capcom didn't have the foresight to encode this game in 480i is beyond me.
And based off of the dumped games archive, the Mega Man X Collection dump I have is a clean dump, so that wasn't the issue.

Personally, it is NOT worth trading this for a new TV that supports 240p/240i; it is impossible to know beforehand which TVs support this unconventional resolution!
You could get a cheap video scaler, to upscale the 240p image to 480 i......

You could also get these third party cables I saw once that has composite AND component AND s-video and just plug them all in so you don't have to be changing cables just for one game (assuming it actually works in composite although not on component). You'd just have to change the input source. I'd imagine that would be even cheaper if it works (and I'm not sure which option would have the worst image quality, which I'm sure comes into play here, too.)

I played through the entirety of MGS: Twin Snakes Disc 1and I can confirm the game itself works. However, the disc swap issue is there. I'll do what I did for ToS and inject a save file and play disc two from there.

Yes, i confirm this too. Everything works well. But of course disc change doesn't work.

To go past the first disc, i installed Swiss. I had to install a very early version because the latter ones didn't work for me. I used Swiss 0.1-r2. Revision 62 and later revisions didn't work for me. Name the .iso files mgsts-disc1.iso and mgsts-disc2.iso and eject and reinsert the disc when the disc change occurs.

Just a side info, in Swiss audio crackles a lot but in DM the game runs perfect. That is why i am returning to DM after the disc change.

@[member='reprep'] Hmm, yeah, at least for those of us who own SD geckos, that would be a great workaround to be able to pass the disk change using our own save file. Thanks.

Yup, i bought a clone about 3-4 bucks just in case i might need to use it. I would hate to continue someone else's saves.

The best alternative for people without SD Gecko seems like move the disc 1 save file from wii to Dolphin, create the disc 2 save file in Dolphin and transfer the save back to wii i guess.

I am using component cables on a SD CRT. The dios mios splash screen is distorted and flickers, as if it is being displayed in progressive mode. Games play fine as long as I select 'no' when they ask if I want progressive video. Is there any way to get the splash screen to come up in interlaced mode so it looks normal? I'm using DM 2.0 update 4.

It depends on which loader it is as to where the option is but there should be an option somewhere to disable the progressive patch.

Edit : actually, why do you have component cables on a TV that can't do progressive?

As tueidj said the display is way sharper and text is more readable.

I'm using dm-booter. There is a 'force interlace' option which seems to do nothing. There is another option for video mode which I set to 480i and that didn't help either. I don't see any other options that look like they'd make a difference. I'll try various combinations and report back.

Composite only scales up to 480i, Component has a theoretical scale up to 1080p, but bluray players restrict the resolution due to piracy reasons.
A scaler will take care of your isseu that your tv cannot handle 240 p.
The scaler will scale the image before the signal hits your tv.

You'de also have to change the wii output settings if it is set to 480p whn switching to composite.

Can anyone say if Resident Evil3: Nemesis works for you? I tried dumping PAL and NTSC versions, converted it with DiscEx (t and no t parameter), reinstalled clean BC and MIOS and DM after that. The game gives me random freeze on loads (going from one zone to another) and on the intro if I don't skip it fast enough - typical freeze where game stops on particular frame and speakers make sound of a dying cat. If anyone can confirm or give me a workaround I would be much obliged.

FWIW, I'm using component video with my Sony SD CRT. It does look a lot better than composite, and a little better than S-video.

Regarding the DIOS MIOS, interlace, and the splash screen: it seems that, if you are using a component cable, it does not matter how you set the loader (i.e. forced 480i); the DM splash screen appears in 480P (garbled), then games load with the progressive mode selection screen (if they support 480P).

I use a Wega CRT with component cables, I don't have usblgx set to force progressive, and when DM loads, depending on the game it may come up a little garbled but 9/10 games shows the GC icon with DIOS MIOS perfectly clear (some games, off the top of my head I can't remember, doesn't show the DM logo at all but still loads the game).

try uncompressing the game, and are you using cheats? some cheats will lock up games badly.....
