Man, it's been some time since I followed the Wii scene. I have a question to ask and hope that somebody can answer it.

I just noticed this video from crediar via his Twitter account. Apparently it's a demo video of DML, but it's whoopin 45 min long.
I don't have time to watch all 45 minutes. Is there anything to watch that one don't want to miss? (And since when can crediar post videos longer than 10 minutes?)

It's just a demonstration about the "new" DML he was working on. It's a little old, because he already released the DML he mentioned in that video. Any more questions?

Ah, I see. It's nice that crediar is still working on DML after he sold the source code to someone.
Yes I have one final question. I am using Swiss for Gamecube games from SD since last time I checked the compatibility of Swiss was much better than DML's. How is the compatibility now compared to latest Swiss?
Since official release and r21, it was more or less up to par with swiss (perhaps slightly better). You could pretty much encounter the same audio glitches and slowdowns.

...but since the video, the fund raiser and the public release, DML really kicked in. I haven't encountered a single slowdown or audio glitch since I got it to work. Introduction scene from F-Zero is smooth as butter, PoP: sands of time plays as well (or even better) than from DVD, and so on.

EDIT: forgot to mention 3 things:
1) I'm comparing DML r34-38 to swiss r94 here. While that's currently the latest version, it's not unthinkable (and even likely) that emu-kidit will implement some of this new code in future versions of swiss. As for swiss...well, as you can notice, new versions come out rather quickly. ;)
2) swiss and DML both rely on a different version of the MIOS (DML practically is a custom MIOS). As such, it's not easy to do a side-to-side comparison. You'll have to reinstall the other cMIOS again each time.
3) a not to be underestimated advantage that it is now public is that the favorite loaders (wiiflow, GX, CFG, postloader) can now also display and load GC games.

"favorite loaders (wiiflow, GX, CFG, postloader) can now also display and load GC games."

i wasnt aware that CFG could now load gamecube as well... is that true? or is that a mistake.

well i tried it but i couldnt figure out how to get DML to work with it... i didnt see any new options or documentation anywhere

In your situation with a broken drive you should not use a gc/wii game disc because Disc Channel is trying to read the game banner and with your broken drive this could couse an error. Use a disc that the system menu doesn't know how to handle (not trying to read the banner), for example a music/movie disc.
Ah, I never thought about it like that, that's a great idea! I'll just find some old DVD that I don't watch anymore. Thanks.

Although... It should be a must though, surely?

As I usually use CFG USB Loader and it could be useful.
I wouldn't be to sure. CFG has a more limited scope than the other loaders and is not being developed very actively at the moment.
As soon as I jump into the DML band wagon, it's back to wiiflow for me. What I like about CFG is that its appearance is more refined; compare, for instance, its game info screen to that of wiiflow's. However, wiiflow is a lot more functional, and with FIX94's involvement it has gained much welcomed flexibility (works again with Crap shortcuts, forwarder ISO's, supports DML, etc.).

However, back to the topic:
Must DML be installed in order to launch the SD card testing app? How is it launched?
Also, the google code page says that is stores the results on an SD card through a USB-Gecko.
Does it also show the results on the screen?

honestly i'm going be an ass and ask this... is this really better then having muti iso's games made? also can you use gameshark with this?

Has anyone tested Rogue Squadron III, Resident Evil Zero, or Skies of Arcadia on any of the latest DML releases? 35-41+

Well, its almost as good as using a USB loader vs. burning Wii games to DVD.
I like not swapping discs and displaying and launching all my games from the same interface.

Didn't I just see a link to a google-code development site which involved a Modification of CFG USB Loader v70 with possible DIOS MIOS support?

There's already a complied ".DOL" executable in the download section, but... no new documentation though.

Let's revisit that one when this offshoot actually takes off and proves a viable alternative. I was referring to official releases. FIX94's mods to wiiflow were incorporated into the main branch, so I consider it a different case.

The cheapest way to land one used to be to go to gamestop and find a used one for $18 That is their blanket price for any GCN wireless controller but you have to go to the store or risk getting a cheap knock-off if you order online. They don't tell you what brand they are sending you. I got my second one this way and it was in excellent shape but since the GCN has been gone for so long now, it is probably harder to find one. They do make some Wii third party controllers that hook up to the Wii's GCN ports and had good reviews when released, so that's something to check as well. I would research online first, to make sure they work indeed with GCN games and not just Wii games that use CGN controllers.

The developer is R2-D2199 ([email protected]).
This is the official thread:
http://forum.wii-homebrew.com/board42-kreativitaet/development/38914-cfg-usb-loader-mod/

The compiled DOL is r1:
r2 Added listing of GC games on SD Card.
r1 Added auto cIOS selection.

He is working and asks for support to developers, FIX94 will help.

Looking at your post, you REALLY should look into the latest usb loader gx.
Light years ahead....

Nand channel loading
Nand emu channel loading
Nand emu save emulation ( saves right on usb or sd! )
ALL thinkable options right from the intuitive gui.
Installation/ deinstallation of .wads on emunand.
Dumping of saves to emunand. batch or per game.
Dumping of nand right from the gui.
Fully customizable path options( share covers with other loaders for instance etc...)

Offical forwarder available
99% compatible with Wii games, Nand channel limited only because of cios.
MORE options than ANY loader, but very well organized and lockable with parental controls.
No need for external PC apps to set options. All is managable from the gui.

DML support ( great! )
In the very near future, game banner support. Play official game banners ( there is allready a demo of this, it's awesome )
extensive parental controls, details section of EVERY game this includes 3d real time covers, game info etc.

And btw a lot of GC games look really good! ( beyond good and evil, windwaker, starfox adventures, mariokart DD, Paper mario, F Zero GX... all TOP Productions)
I really wished Wii had this level of quality all the time....

@[member='Wever']: What???

DML is not a cMIOS, Swiss and DML actually work very similar, and running Swiss with DML installed should just work.
I apologize for the first part: I haven't properly followed the discussion about this "cMIOS" thing that resulted in the name poll. Still, since it is a customly created wad file that changes the used MIOS, I thought...well, wrong obviously. But I don't have a clue why.

For the second part...I think I screwed up something else. Since I installed DML, swiss wouldn't load anymore. As such, I assumed it was because of DML. Now it...sorta works. Either way, I was wrong about it.

I'll edit that other post.

Woah... I've been away for a while, and see there are many, many new revisions. I have a question though...

Have multi-disc games like MGS Twin Snakes and Killer7 been fixed to allow the disc swap?
