Yes and no. It was fine after reformatting it. But though I was able to make a backup of my games and restore them afterwards, the reformat caused the ID to change...which caused some games to no longer like the card. All in all, about half the savegames I had were FUBAR'ed. There's a thread about it from some weeks ago (I'm too lazy to search right now).

(btw, this was while testing how well swiss and DML could be combined, so it's not exactly an issue with DML).

Anybody using one of these?

http://www.amazon.co...30213071&sr=8-1

Or does anybody have any idea if its compatible with the wii/DML?

Id like to know before i shell out on it.. As it stands im using a 4Gig Micro SD class 4 ;( with an adapter, so an upgrade is definately needed.

Some games are very choppy and stuttery, such as Burnout and Madden NFL 08. Mario Party 7 also freezes just after the title screen but yet its reported as working in the compatibility list.

Im using r47 and NeoGamma and Cfg for my testing, all games uncompressed.

Thanks

I have that exact card except mine it's class 6. It is completely compatible with the Wii. If I were you I'll go for it. The real benefit of using those fast cards are in the process of transferring backups (if u have a lot of them 15gb+) from the PC to the SD because it's higher speed makes the process more smoothly. When the card is inside the Wii during gameplay you won't see too much of a difference from a class 10 to a Class 4 because I'm almost sure the Wii has a limit in the read speed. If u can afford it there's nothing to lose.

Edit: If the above guy recommended that card and works great for him and it's cheaper you could also take his card in consideration.

If there not much difference when used in the wii then why this?

SDHC cards up to 32GB can be used for DML, class 10 is recommended, Sandisk products giving the best outcome.
To avoid confusion and non-functional or lagging games you need to format your SD card to FAT32 64KB clusters ;)
(copied from 1st post of this thread under recommended SD cards)

The cheaper card from play is very tempting......

At first when DML begun developing the initial thought was that faster Cards would perform better. After many tests from different devs and other people it was certain that this info (Class 10 cards performing faster) was inaccurate. I guess the OP maintains that recommendation (my guess) because it is better to recommend people to have better cards so they won't have issues with extremely cheaper cards. That's why he specify Sandisk products to work best but I think that there are other cards that can perform equally nice and are cheaper.

It seems like it would be because DML mainly reads data instead of writing it to the SD card.

Yes, you are correct! Reading from and Writing data to SDHC cards are two completely different operations with different speeds. Faster cards nowadays are directed to the writing operation of the card but DML as Joostin says mainly reads reads data instead of writing to it. I have many SDHC cards and the best use I can get from my faster ones are for transferring my backups quicker from my PC to the card, nothing more.

As a prize do I get back the money I spent on a class 10 card?

I believe they recommended not to buy SDHC I cards not too long ago right here on this thread not too long ago. So in any case the play one would be a better alternative over that one. Make sure it's a regular SDHC class 10 if that's what you're looking to get.

Well, I had the best experience with Sandisk cards, thats why I prefer them, therefor recommending them.

You´re free to buy another card from any other brand but I dont wanna see those why is my card not working with DML questions here in the thread... mkay?

Ok thanks for all the feedback, i think ill prob go with the Sandisk Class 10. I have quite a few games that are reported as working but freeze up or just dont start for me. Hoping a new SD card will remove "some" of these issues.

Great work on DML btw, to all who created this beast. Gave me a reason to start using my wii again.

Nice to read that DML is a reason to fire up your Wii again, also having a SD card with 32gb gives plenty of space for NGC games too :)

Let us know how it works out for ya.

For your problems, I dont know if they will end just using another SD card, just report in with your experience using the new SD card.

Will do exactly that, be a couple of weeks till i can buy a new card (next payday) until then ill keep on dumping and testing my gcn collection. That way i have something to compare the performance of the new card to. I have about 40-50 GC discs i just gotta find where i put them all in the loft :)

Thanks Burton, maybe i found the problem, maybe not. In your log, the last game that works is not logging this:
-Snip-
Since this is logged in a critical moment, trying to log might have caused the corruption. In r47 logging this is disabled(still logged via usb gecko), if it still corrupts your sd card, please report.
Today one game (Gauntlet Legends USA) gave me the Disc error and now every game I access do the same thing. I'm using rev47.

Here's the Log:

No, but I am using one of these, and it works great. Much cheaper too.
You should also check out the customer reviews. The play.com one was complained about not living up to the specs.

Did read those, but as already stated, the write speed is pretty much irrelevant. True, it may well take longer to write the files to it in the first place, but I don't intend to do that more than once, so I don't really care. Anyway, I'll say it again, I've had no problems at all since getting this card, so for DML at least, buy with confidence.

What's the best way to run DML?

so far as i used it on 4swords, im using a class 4, 4GB kingston, but id say get yourself a class 10 Sandisk 32GB card as godlike said familiarly, format it to FAT32KB with 64clusters, and use either r44, or the latest one r47 (heard it might be unstable according to the site) and try on NeoGamma, you COULD use Wiiflow or usbloader GX or the CFG MODS to run em but idk about those, ive only tried neogamma r56

now idk if thats the ULTIMATELY BEST way to do it, its what ive gathered from reading this whole thread
