I need to give Nand permissions to my launch year Wii's IOS36 and I'm wondering if there is any reason to upgrade the IOS36 version v1042 to the latest (v3608) or is there no benefit to doing that? This question kind of applies to all IOS's that may be "outdated" as well. They have all these newer versions of the IOS's, but what benefits do they offer (starting with IOS36)?

It will make nothing better. Only some channels like shop channel and some games like new super mario bros wii require newer IOS versions. But if everything works, you don't need to update something.

I always wondered what the advantage of using IOS 236 for a patched 36 is... Maybe you can explain? Why not just patch IOS36 and not worry about IOS236?

It is, in effect, just a simple way to "stay ahead of nintendo" by putting a backup 36 in a spot nintendo isn't as likley to delete in an update...

Though if this keeps up nintendo is just going to start putting stubs in every IOS slot... Or they'll continue to play whack a mole with the mole 3 steps ahead.
