I still don’t know from who exactly. But we seem to be getting more and more.

On Twitter I've seen a Korean IP address and a couple of different screenshots with a list of packages. Someone mentioned a misconfigured Sony's server...

I concur, that "Dreams" package was more interesting. ^__^

Wait, since when, is it only a few games or what?

Well, if we consider only decrypted titles, the minimum firmware requirement is linked to the SDK version used for their development, so to answer your question it applies to a lot of them. In this specific case it was hinted by @zecoxao that some modifications were necessary, I suppose they remapped all syscalls to older FW.

The usual stumbling block remains, .i.e. the mandatory FW to decrypt a title, no new method or keys leaked, kexploit still required...

so what games are proven to be downgraded to 5.05 besides ff7 remake and I guess Spiderman? the next question are they out in the wild yet?. Doing this, is it something the average Joe can do??

“Back porting” makes the current things work of previous firmware.

What actually needs to change?

Obviously any calls to new functions would need attention, which could get tricky to make work on older firmware. But do Sony actually ever add any new functions?

I’m not 100% on this but I understand that any new functions (5.5x+) can be ported to 5.05 natively, no work around needed.

This is proven in the FFVII demo apparently.

The downgrade via SDK technique used in GOW for example means it’s unplayable on 4.05, but works in 4.55. Back porting should prevent any issues whatsoever.

I'm not sure, notzecoxao posted this

you'll notice that the usual method of replacing the sdk modules was NOT used and that ADITIONALLY, external modules used in the game's creation were ALSO backported

this opens a new way of backporting games for people who are still in 4.55, 4.74 and 4.05, for instance. now, the only thing standing in the way of backporting is if a new feature is added...

I wonder what they mean by backporting. I might be wrong but it seems a bit like the old ps3 eboot days.
