Hacking did realhotstuff send me a fake?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention, turns out mine was fake as well. =\
However, when I asked them about it, they sent me back a real one with a screen protector! (albeit in chinese, but still a free screen protector.)

Got my replacement yesterday, it's 100% real. realhotstuff.com isn't going to send out any more of that fake shipment, they only knowingly sell authentic R4s.

they sent me a full refund including the cost of return shipping (minus the .41 cents paypal took to process the payment, LOL). i went with an ak rpg from dx instead, ordered 2 days ago.

The mods really need to create a new post and sticky it.

As far as I know, the R4DS production line ceased a few months back. I only know of this because people have posted as such. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe they've just gone underground.

Nintendo, along with a truck load of other companies, are suing the Japan distributors of the R4Ds.

It may be only a matter of time before most vanish anyway.

So it stands to reason that probably 99.99% of the R4DS being sold out there are fakes/clones.

That said, there are probably some very good clones out there. I suspect I may have 2, as they were very recently purchased. And the re-seller posted pictures of a truck load of R4DS, memory sticks, etc, all with each type of device sorted separately, that looks like they actually put together the "R4DS Kit".

Either way, mine work just fine.

But as people mentioned, there are newer carts out there that are probably well worth their money. I don't have one, but it appears the CycloDS Evolution is the way to go. I have 2 SuperCard DS One SDHC carts, and work just fine as well.

Then again, I may have no idea what I'm talking about.

you are correct, they stopped making them officially and also supporting them. its a moot point now, but as you know 99% of people don't read they just post and assume. my reason for purchase was as a cheap gift for someone who wanted "what i had." as a result i bought an RPG and i'll be giving my r4 to them as the gift.

Hi, I just received my r4 and the box is identical but the cartridge itself does not have a ripple. I've read the other threads about my r4 being stuck on the loading screen (when you first turn it own, 2 black screens with the top one displaying loading...) and tried installing the new kernels, but remains in the same place.

Have I, too, obtained a fake?

I've e-mailed the website a moment ago and the site i purchased it from is nxpgame.com.

you can't feel the chips on the back, so its not a sticker right on the pcb itself? - then thats a good sign so far. r4 was never sdhc, is yours? the box, contents and everything look legit to the photos i added? the last step is to open it and check the board to see. you can find pics of the real board on this forum.

try formatting your msd. putting on the 1.18 kernal from r4. you can get it here

i did download the recently v1.18 kernel and extract the files onto the micro sd, but still no difference.

i also checked the r4 itself and it appears real. even opened it up to see the chip and it looks like your first post except the black square box is slightly smaller and a tad lower. overall, it is one chip.

hrm.....

hopefully i can get this figured out asap because it's gonna need to be a present in several days...

It looks pretty legit to me. I bought about 3 r4's and everything inside the box looks pretty correct. My 1st r4 had the same number 2 inside a circle as yours. and the box looks pretty real.

I have this clone, it's my first and only flashcard.

I'm not going to take it apart and look in detail at it's numbers and stuff, so to me it feels exactly the same as the normal one and I don't really care if it's fake or not, it just boots nds files, thats it.
