It's a pity you didn't say xbox360 controllers, because I do have code for those (via the x360 pc dongle)...

I thought the dongle's device descriptor was too large and crashed the Wii any time you tried to parse it... or did you fix that?

Hi there tueidj, first time I comment here, great work on this and I really wish you good luck, I may be a fan of Dios Mios atm but I respect the amount of effort you put into this and I'll definitely give it a try when it comes out!

I know this was a joke but I actually would be very interested actually if you added support for the XBOX 360 USB controller for Wii, not only on GC games but even for Wii and Wiiware like on Dolphin XD

A long time ago I added support for wired xbox360 drums to Wii Rock Band 2 by remapping some USB stuff in IOS. The drums act the same as an xbox 360 controller (via a usb dongle) except they have no triggers.

I posted this on another thread but thought it would fit in much better here.
The AP will make it harder for me because the majority of my GC discs are now scratched to the point where they freeze or won't launch, but I understand him not wanting it to be a warez loader.
I understand this too, but my biggest problem with such a system is that it negates the main reason I'd want it. The Wii i would want a GC USB loader for is the one that's lacking a functional DVD drive. I'm sure many others would also want it for the same reason. Dead drives are pretty common nowadays, especially on older units...and apart from GC and ripping games, you can do almost everything without a drive.
Because of that, I'll have to use DM if/when it comes out, or maybe use DML (trying to avoid this since I need to buy a bigger SD, and my HDD already has plenty of space...)
I do seem to remember [member='tueidj'] saying something about this being for this benefiting those who had bad drives or those with new Wii's that spit out the GC disks so I kinda think having scratched disks won't actually cause [member='JoostinOnline'] that much trouble since he does actually have the original disks.

I think he also mentioned something about an external USB DVD drive actually being able to recognize the validity of a retail disk even if it wasn't able to actually rip the disk.

I speculate that Devolutions AP will have an option of encrypting and signing an existing ISO image for use with Devolution as long as it can verify the presence of an original retail disk at time of installation, be that through the internal drive, a USB drive or (if he were to put a LOT of work into it) an EXI-IDE adapter.

Edit : heh, wait, I'm speculating about the wrong app for this thread. :shy:

Edit : Actually, I don't think encrypting the disk image would necessarily be needed. Just creating an encrypted list of GameID's it's already seen an original disk for and signing it somehow with the Wii's own keys so it could only be used with that console would be sufficient I think. (There's plenty of ways that already exist to rip the original disk so re-ripping it and/or converting it to a different format seems like extra wasted time and effort to me.).

I speculate that people will b*tch about a missing GUI and start DV vs. DM debates :)
Hmm, I hadn't actually NOTICED anyone complain about the lack of GUI yet but now that you mention it . . .
It would be nice if it would be able to accept arguments so someone else could make a GUI front end for it. I'd personally just throw it in my WiiFlow-mod plugins folder.

I mean, it might not have all the bells, whistles, and eye candy that something like CFG Loader or Wiiflow has, but technically I think it would still count as a GUI since it isn't CLI, just (at this point) a very simplistic yet functional, no frills text based menu.

I can't even imagine CLI on the Wii. Oh god.

The text based loader shown in the youtube videos should not be counted as part of Devolution, all it does is write the desired game ID to memory then launch the "real" app.

Oh, so it DOES take arguments. I can see all kinds of custom GUI's popping up then and inclusion in existing backup loaders as well.

Except they're not arguments in the traditional sense and it's not a standalone app, just a memory "blob" that gets executed.

Works for me.

Also I speculate (wish list) that Devolution will eventually emulate the GC broadband adapter from WiFi and be a complete GC hardware clone for Wii.

It's a UI, not a GUI.

So, basically, it would be possible to provide some example sources about how to write the game id to the proper memory area and launch the blob? (sounds like an old horror movie I once saw)
