We're actually having this exact discussion over at WiiHacks' in the Devolution Guide topic, but unfortunately it wouldn't matter in your case because currently a GameCube controller is required and the new Wii's lack said controller ports. This is only a temporary requirement however since the creator of Devolution himself actually HATES the Gamecube controller. :P

At the very least however, your uncle could make due with the Wii version of TP and the VC version of OoT (plus MQ via some homebrew if you care).

So once devolution works with CC will he be able to use my dump?, because his wii is real recent it lacks of the posibilities of reading GC discs, unlike mine which is a first gen one.

And i know devolution needs a GC controller, hence why in theory we would use my wii (which has access to GC ports and mem cards ports) in order to make the needed dump.

We actually aren't 100% sure, hence the discussion over on WiiHacks - we're having conflicting reports on what happens with Devolution between two separate Wii systems that are using the same USB/SD device.

You don't actually need a GC memory card for Devolution since it can use an emulated one on the USB/SD device. Of course if you want to dump said memory card to use with Devolution, then that can be done on any Wii with GC ports. Also there have been reports that Devolution can corrupt saves on said emulated memory card, but it is unknown if it was just an old bug that has been fixed or if it was even the fault of Devolution at all.

I'm thinking about buying a Japanese only game that doesn't seem to have an iso around the internet
Out of curiosity will an NTSC-J work with Devolution on an NTSC Wii?

Indeed it does work, which you can see via the compatibility list. That "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" game I posted about two pages baack is a Japan-only title and, other than some timing issues with Panel de Pon's in-game timer, it runs just fine.

Note however that if the game uses an actual font for text rather than 2D textures, you'll get raw jibberish. (Yoshi no Cookie in "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" is an example of this)

Thanks, guys
The garbled text doesn't bother me, I believe thanks to that the game saves on the MC without asking for a format.

This is correct, I can have my Nintendo Puzzle Collection save on the same card as all my US game saves. Note that the info for the memory card save itself will also be jibberish since it too uses a font.

Also AFAIK, you won't be able to use the same memory card save in Dolphin if you ever want to do so since it emulates a Japanese-formatted memory card for Japanese games. (if there is a way to use a US memory card for Japanese games in Dolphin, please let me know!)

EDIT: according to a post on Dolphin's forums SOME Japanese games will only work correctly with Japanese-formated memory cards. If you run into this issue I supposed you could just use Devolution's emulated memory card function for this specific Japanese game. However, according to SNES_Master on WiiHacks using the emulated memory card with a physical card plugged in may result in corruption of your physical memory card - it is unknown what causes this and if having the physical memory card be a different formatted region would effect the probability of it happening.

I see, I had hoped that the mc emulation was more like "If enabled the mc ports stay unmounted" or so

Anyways I checked the compatibility list and it's there; Konjiki no Gash Bell! Go Go Mamono Fight!!
It's nice to know someone still plays this obscure title

Devolution r196 released. No changelog. Apparently tueidj deleted a number of problematic games from the compatibility list, so perhaps they are working correctly now?

Edit: Looks like the standalone loader supports PSX and Wii/Classic controllers. Have yet to test anything.

Hmm, maybe I'm having a caching issue with my browser but OP still gives me the old files ... let me check.

EDIT : Nope, still dated Feb 10th and marked r188. I'll keep trying to see what's wrong but R U sure?

Yep.... just downloaded r196 a second time. Will test soon with classic controller.

Yeah, I was just able to download revision 196 as well (dated April 11, and the XML file says "r196"). All the games that I tried are working (although they worked before). I was also able to select games in the sample loader with the Wii Remote, but when I loaded the game, the Wii Remote would lose its connection.

For what it's worth, I also tried to load a game on the Wii U. However, all that I got was a black screen. I'm assuming that I would have to "verify" it.

How'd you notice so fast about the new version??? :O

ALSO! PSX Controllers? How?

Just noticed the edits on the compatibility list and thought I'd see if a new version was available. As far as alternative controllers go, they do not appear to be working in game, at least not yet.
