Press A to launch a game and after a little while the disc slot should start periodically doing 2 flashes. If it instead does four flashes and returns to HBC, it couldn't mount your storage device - you'll need a USB gecko to find out why.
Try with the official loader (the one provided in the first post too) instead of launching the game from another loader.
If it's doing the same thing, then it's probably your USB device. Try with an SD card instead, or another HDD.

Another thing:
Be sure that you are launching USBLoaderGX with either <ahb_access/> or <no_ios_reload/> tag in the meta.xml, it's what grants hardware access to applications and the loader will pass this rights to devolution.
If you launch USBLoaderGX from the channel, be sure that it's the latest version (5.1 with AHBPROT).
And if you launch it from priiloader, it's probably why it's not working.

Oh derp, I thought that's what happens with FIVE flashes, not four. In my defense I've only been awake for 30 minutes or so. :P

If you have an HDTV that displays the input resolution you should be able to find out easily if Devolution forces 480p or not (I still use a Trinitron SDTV so I cannot test it).

I tried r188 with WiiFlow and GX both gave flashes and returned me to hbc when I used my HDD; switched to a flash drive and it worked so I guess r188 breaks some drive compatibility.

Well, you could always try the classic "nuke the partition table and recreate it via PartedMagic" method that I had to do to make my flash drive even work on my Wii.

...wait, now that I'm thinking about it, why the heck would a drive be accessible by the Wii but not via Devolution specifically? Isn't all modern homebrew USB stuff just done via IOS58?

I think IOS58 gives it easy access to the USB ports at USB 2.0 speed. The homebrew has to worry about asking the drive for drive information, interpreting the partition table and all the the file system and stuff all by itself. Other homebrew have libraries to use for that that kinda do it for them but Devolution seems to have been written completely from scratch so it might not use quite the same methods as other homebrew does.

If this is something that he's saying worked fine BEFORE but broke now with THIS rev, I'm sure tueidj would be more than happy to find out about it. A WiFi log WOULD be a good idea ... assuming tueidj still lurks here.

All you have to do it say it's with PSO and post it on that one PSO forum and he'll reply in less than a day (I kid you not).

EDIT: And about the IOS stuff for USB drives, wasn't there an actual flash drive for a Japanese-made Wii RPG game who's title I cannot remember currently? Does that mean the game itself includes the USB drive support and does not use an IOS to achive such functionality?

EDIT 2: By PSO forum I mean here:
http://l33tserv.forum-nation.com/t342-wii-support

Perhaps for future reference we should all get a copy of PSO and use it for generic Devolution tests and post any problems that occur in that forum topic so that they may actually get fixed. :P (disclaimer: I don't own PSO myself)

Just tried offiicial loader same flash thing happened but then tried with my SD card and worked so guess it doesnt like my HDD
the post above said r188 breaks some drive compatibility is there any way of downloading his earlier revisions? wanna test if it will work with my HDD (my SD card is way too small for multiple GC games lol)

You wouldn't happen to own a copy of PSO, would you? This is something we really should report since it's clearly a regression, but tueidj only quickly responds on that previously mentioned PSO forum (LINK).

So the idea is, if we specifically use PSO as a "guinea pig" for the bug report, combine it with two wifi logs of launching PSO on both r169 and r188, and then post everything on that PSO forum, we should theoretically get tueidj to make a fix in record time.

Nah I still got about 20 of my old gamecube games (some horrendous ones!) in the closet somewhere but sadly I never got PSO stupid younger me!

So I presume you don't know anyone with a copy of PSO that you could borrow, even if for just a couple of minutes to make the wifi logs?

Thanks for finding that r169, unfortunately I don't have a copy of PSO

Hopefully next rev fixes the HDD issue, also anyone notice how loader.bin is now like 11KB smaller?
Anyways I'll try posting in that PSO forum, worth a try.

But won't it be off-topic if you don't own PSO? Also, tueidj seems to be an avid PSO player, so any issues with PSO seem to be considered as "critical", or at least this is how I'm perceiving it. This could mean that, if it's not PSO, then it may not be "worth his time" (at least not enough to make a fix so quickly).

On a related note, I never actually checked my 750GB hard drive to see if it still works with r188. Perhaps I should go test that...

EDIT: my HDD works on r188.

(I normally just use a 16GB flash drive that holds my most commonly played Wii and GCN games in the interest of making my hard drive last longer by merely using it as archival backup storage - everything it contains is a copy of something from somewhere else, whether it's from a drive or a disc)

Given tuidj's avid focus on PSO, I'm beginning to think that classic controller support may not ever happen. :(
