Is it possible to develop homebrew with java and how? The wiki says c is required. I'm asking for a friend, he's goos at java but don't want to learn c yet.

No it is not. For that we would have to get the jre on the 3ds running. And that probably won't happen.
However you can code in c, c++ and lua.

If he already knows java he shouldn't have to much problems with C/C++
Java =/= C/C++. I mean; seriously.
JIT compiled languages are too heavy to run on the 3DS. JavaScript runs slowly, Lua isn't really fast either, so... And Java is like the worst language ever

As if the guys who created Java thought "We're gonna create a language with the downsides of C++ but without its upsides".
That being said...

I never said Java = C/C++. If someone is "good" at java, they should have no problem learning C/C++.
