Sounds like he means he dumped the kernel, not that he actually exploited it. But dumping is the first step to finding an exploit, so this is still big news!

Well, what does this all mean?

Nothing for us yet, but since they have the kernel now they can find privilege escalation vulnerabilities (kernel exploits) which leads to all the good stuff.

The fact they got this far in just 4 months is spectacular.
