I like how this thread about debunking has turned into perpetuating unproven theories...
I doubt anyone's going to RE an update. It's not worth the time or effort.
It was going to be about debunking the banwave claims untill the results showed that the banwave really happened. You can't argue with statistics.

It was going to be debunking untill the results showed that the banwave really happened.
So now there are rumors going around that a game update caused it. Where's the debunking? People are just nodding and saying "Yep, that must be it." It's not even likely the case.

Edit: Anyway, I'm unwatching since no one's contributing anything and everyone's just giving people potentially false or misleading information.

Advice to anyone who further inquires about why they're banned; If you want to know why you are banned or how it happened, don't ask those who don't know.

It was the about debunking the banwave claims as in if a banwave really happened or not,not the theories. The theories are opinions and suggestions.Finding the actual cause of the banwave is nearly impossible, otherwise this thread would be called finding the cause of the banwave instead of finding out if the banwave claims are true, which they where.

I've seen people claim that they've been playing pirated copies of USUM 1.2 and not getting banned btw. We're back to square 1 I guess, if we ever got any further than that.

So should I update to 1.2 then? I would still need to grab my no-outlines patch and my PokeCalc NTR plugin updates, but have been holding off on that.

I wouldn't, if you fear a ban. At least not without a public LFCS, until we can rule out the 1.2 update with absolute certainty, if that's ever gonna happen.
All I said was we have mixed data suggesting different stuff. The culprit may very well still be the 1.2 update AND metadata / telemetry. They're not mutually exclusive.

Edit: Or, of course, inaccurate or flawed data / observations.

I actually never believed that theory about the 1.2 update to begin with, but I'll let people think what they want since we don't have real evidence on what triggers the ban exactly.

Well, yea, I was / am with people like you on this. It just seems weird. The thing is, we do actually seem to have very specific cases that suggest the 1.2 update may be involved. And we have cases where people just didn't get banned despite using pirated 1.2 online. Meh :/

Edit: It would be useful to find whether anyone who didn't run 1.2 got banned.

I note again that the only polling options, as well as the only responses, seem to be from people who use some form of public or private seed, and none who have never swapped a seed at all. Either way it has affected both public and private seeds alike. If something in your setup(homebrew CIAs, modified files, out of region online play / invalid titles while online, impossible combo of internal firmware modules from some ctrtransfer or other firmware mods etc.) has caused your system to get banned in the past, and all you did was swap a LFCS seed, you are likely to eventually get banned again for the same setup.

If you are using a private seed, you sorta never have swapped it at all most likely...:P

No one started swapping there non banned private with a public till i sudjested it.I got banned way before in the may banwave so I didn't swap my private seed with a public one untill it was as good as dead.As for running unsupported software on a unbanned private seed before swapping, which makes it unlikely to not stop the unbanned private seed from being banned,I could totally see that possibility, but we don't know for sure since a specific homebrew could trip the ban and it's under our noses.

I was getting 001-0502 for a while. Thought my private seed was banned. Error code different to the ban ones reported, thankfully. Working now. Guess it was just my wifi.

Other than that, haven't patched my pirated UM to 1.2, still not banned.
