Aslo, the series didn't die after that but the quality went downhill in the anime. Everything was a bit too rushed.
The second half is supposed to be longer than the first but they made it shorter for some reason....
Read the manga, trust me you'll love it a lot more.

I'm so sad. The Death Note anime series has come to an end. Now what will I watch?
Death Note clearly (IMO) kicked Naruto's ass in just 38 episodes. But i still watch naruto.

Anyone have any suggestions as to an alternate to death note?

I thought Death Note had only 37 episodes... Didn't it end like over a year ago?

I don't think there is need for a spoiler box for a thread titled DEATH NOTE HAS ENDED. ::ahem::

And for those that stated the Director's Cut isn't worth it, it was a nice revamp through Chapters 1-25 with some new scenes, and the allegory that Light is now a Shinigami... Remember, he goes not to heaven or hell... And there is a new Shinigami that asks Ryuk to tell him the story of light. Compare the beginning of the director's cut with the new shinigami coming up the stairs with the very end of the anime when light is also on the stairs dying of a heart attack... Hm... Fan service I'm sure. The biggest fan service piece in that was of course when L leans closer and closer to light in the movie theater.

And if you read the manga and the followup book, I think Near and Mello are kinda slighted a bit in the second season of DN. It's hard to live up to L's name, but it makes you wonder what happened to the person that was L before Lawliet. Or what exactly went on in Wammy's house to drive A and B to do what they did... I'm sure we'll find out somehow.
