Please don't take this as a fanboy post (because it isn't), but Team Cyclops are (trying to) implement never-seen-before features. They are quick to release bugfixes and/or critical updates, just give them some time to workon the major features.

...any hint on what these never-before-seen features may be?

Here is a list of all the features slated for the next firmware update:

Support for user created Action Replay codes
Having several skins on your MicroSD card at once and togging via the Options screen
Support for running GBA games (no patching required) in conjunction with a slot 2 CycloDS Micro/Mini
Using either CycloDS Micro/Mini or the EZFlash 3in1 as a RAM pack for the Opera Browser
Using the EZFlash 3in1 as a rumble expansion for NDS games
Screen capture from the GUI, to assist skin creators in making previews
Returning to the CycloDS Evolution menu from Moonshell (ie: soft reset)
Sleep mode supported in the CycloDS Evolution GUI
More languages supported for the ingame menu
Compatibility with Wii connectivity (ie: Pokemon Battle Revolution)

Realtime save/load in DS games is the main one.

- Sam

Edit: Ambiguity

Have you personally talked to TC about this, and they said that's why the firmware hasn't been released yet, because they're trying to get realtime save in for this release? Or is this just a guess?

They are starting to worry me a little bit. They haven't been as active on the board. I hope they're just hard at work on this next firmware release.

They've taken a run with their money. Welcome to the DS-X world!

OMG...

Well, they just recently had a sell-out situation with the Evos, and had to ramp up supplies quite a bit. Plus, they've got the CycloWiz to keep them busy. We're talking about what is likely a company run by a handful of people or less. The cards might be manufactured overseas, but that's certainly something that's farmed out, which allows them to produce their products cheaply. But most of these flash-card companies are probably very small set-ups -- two or three-person organizations in most cases.

When you've got several different lines of products, support for each product to deal with, customer service...etc., etc. -- you'll be quite busy trying to keep up. If your product is a success, like the Evo, you might be able to afford to hire someone on temporarily. But these guys aren't Sony. This is grassroots stuff.

What I would like to know is what part of that firmware update has people in such a rush for its release? My Evo's working fine. I'll be happy with a tinker here or there, but there's nothing I'm waiting for that will make my experience with the card more functional.

IMHO the CycloDS might be better now, but the R4 has been around for a long time, and there are always constant firmware updates and new features. I don't know if the CycloDS might slow down with features or start to become less popular and have less support.

Let's see what the Evo update turns out being, and then I think I'll make my decision. Part of me KNOWS that the next gen of Slot-1 solutions will come out a month after I buy my replacement, but I guess that's how this market works anyhow.

when i brought my slot 2 in christmas, the day after slot 1 were announced and 1 week later released.

I was going to buy the CycloDS but i am going for R4 now as i have been waiting a month for a new flast cart(gave slot 2 away) as its sold out everywhere.

Cyclo said a new firmware was going to be released in mid july, but it never showed up.

OK.

Months later it has come to this:

All of the 3 carts support Download Play, they all autopatch for DLDI (the DS-X is another story, I think homebrew that runs from that cart doesn't need autopatching, it works without DLDI, but then again, I'm ignorant)

I lean towards the Cyclo because of their native support for the 3in1.
The DS-X is out of the question because of their NULL support for Backups.

I own a DS-X but I got both an EZV with 3in1 and a CycloDS Evo.

I'm an R4 owner, but I recommend the CycloDS Evo. Its got alot more features compared to the R4 and has a touch screen enabled menu for selecting games.

R4 with 3 in 1 should be your best solution, the cyclods got more problem than r4 with 3 in 1
Nope, thats incorrect. As of the last cyclods update, it has native support for the 3in1. Rumble and RAM work without requiring a 3rd party application (like Rudolphs tool). As for GBA games, you've always been able to use GBA games via Rudolphs tool. Personally, I'd opt for the cyclods.

Well it's in my hands now folks. Just a matter of copying/converting over my old saves. What a difference this thing is in load times. The autocheats are nice, but the big thing is I can change the screen brightness on the fly. Great.

Hello,

I am terribly sorry your girlfriend was burnt from the DS-X

Sadly your DS-Xtreme seems to be majorly defective. I would like to take the opportunity and apologize to you for the inconvenience. Please contact your retailer and link them to this ticket in order to speed up the replacement process.

If your retailer is unresponsive, and takes more then 5 work days to respond to your request, please let me know and we will initiate the manufacturer's warranty.

Again, I apologize for the hassle this has caused you and hope you get a fully working unit soon!

We currently do not have any stock, nor do any retailers. So sadly, at the moment, he most likely did not respond because he can't ship a unit to you. Please be patient for the stock situation to clear up

He most likely uses the "unread" as sign to know who is left of getting a replacement

But thats my guess, im sure we will update you as soon as we got stock. Sorry man

As we currently have no stock, Dino most likely will be unable to ship you a unit. For this reason, I am putting your ticket into the "confirmed" state. This will enable me once to seek contact with you once we have stock again.

If you already got your replacement or a response from Dino, please let me know, thank you!

Hi, it's been 37 days and counting that I have been sitting on my defective unit.

Is there any way that you could get in contact with Dino or whoever is in charge of ordering new stock to be made and let me know an estimated time of the new stocks arrival.

Plus I have been through all the other tickets waiting for new units and there are only 4 of us waiting. Its kinda annoying that I cant get hold of a replacement unit but there is a compo on the forums to win 2 units.

Im sure there must be more you can do than say you can get a unit to me but it all depends on someone who wont respond to my emails. I am sure you can understand my frustration at the situation.

Hello,

There still is no stock - Thus dino may not be replying to you.

We can't order "more" stock - we are the producer/manufacturer ourselves...

There is currently a shortage for various components required to produce the DS-X which makes us unable to produce any new units.

This bothers us just as much as it bothers you and we have been trying our best to get our hands on these components at a reasonable price (without having to up the price due to inflation onto the customer) but we have yet been unable to do so.

So yes, while we are running a competition or sponsored one, we put those units aside 3-4 months ago as far as I remember, thus we can deliver the prizes.

Do you have any stock of the 512MB units that would be fine I dont realy care about the size I just want a working cart now.
