It's still over half the speed. You'd think I'd get more than 0.1mb per 2 minutes.

Or I would...

I suppose I won't backup my games then.

Well, I'm sure my speed could be faster too.... so maybe I'll look into it.

IOS37-64-v2070.wad is on the "Rock Band (USA)" ISO. Maybe others too?

@teq - "Lighten up, Francis". You seem to be picking fights with everyone these days.

the Gamecube drive worked the same way.. and if no drive softmod were ever released, there is a good reason for that: you can NOT defeat dvd drive hardware protection through software, nintendo just get this thing right (at least)
or atleast untill starlet is fully hacked

no, Starlet can not do that and will never be able to,

you REALLY have to understand that the drive firmware is a stand-alone software, it ONLY interfaces itself with Starlet through IOS to send/receive commands and datas.

If you send an unknow command, it is rejected by the firmware
And if your disc is not recognized by the drive firmware , commands sent by software are rejected, making it impossible to read the disc, this is common DVD protection.

The disc recognition is handled by the firmware, when the drive startup and this firmware is locked on the drive, this means it is NOT modificable or hackable with another software , the ONLY way to access it is through a drivechip connected to some physical (hardware) lines.

so, stop dreaming about DVD backup without a modchip, a lot of things are possible around WIi hacking and certainly a lot of stuff will come in future with patched IOS and bootcodes, but certainly not a softmod like on the dreamcast

the IOS doesnt do everything, everything is done on the hardware by starlet,

yeep, what I said

IOS = Starlet OS = interface with specific wii hardware & dvd drive + operating system
hardware is useless without IOS, it's like having a computer with all hardware but no OS and no drivers installed

just want to say that Bushing's last entry seems to contradict the above points, very surprising and too bad he probably will never share his findings with untrustable people like us

I can guarantee my 2gb card is fast, it's an official Kingston and works fine for everything else. I uninstalled the custom IOS, so I'll reinstall and test again now that I've fully formatted it. I don't expect it to work though.

Yep. Same speed again, I'm at 0.1mb. I suppose it could be the lead-in area, so I'll let it go a little more, but I don't think it's working. It's probably not very compatible with all sd cards.

Well, I'm using a 2GB Japanese Kingston, and if I'm backing up a GC disk(haven't tried a Wii one yet) I get a constant speed of 1/6 MB a second from the start, which backed up GC game in almost exactly 3 hours(I had the partitions size set at 1.75GB for the Wii and expected it to stop at the end of a GC game, but it didn't). I'm sure it could be faster but I can't be bothered to try another card or anything.

Do you have your card formatted as FAT16 or FAT32? FAT16 worked just fine for me.

FAT16 is all that works, not that it would matter much.

Hate to tell you, but those Kingstons run really slow unless they're the Elite version.

Help!

Where can I get "IOS37-64-v2070.wad"

It seems I've googled and yahood, limewired and done everything I can to find one and still can't find one. (I'm trying to fix my Semi Bricked Wii. Its a US model. I made the dumb mistake of using a Japanese Wii Fit disk with my Wii and Semi Bricked it...)

It seems you haven't googled. The filename brings up a site with a link in the first page of results. Go try again and don't request such naughty things here.

Dreamcast didn't have a softmod like we are searching for here, It was a different fault to begin with, and the games were patched to run, not the system in any way, so get your facts straight

some games didnt even need to be patched, the whole security system on the DC was stupid, i dont even know why modchips were made for it

"This is a Custom IOS, an IOS modified to add some new features
not available in the official IOS"

I've read this a few times in different places...

So what does this do?

.... It just adds DVD reading for homebrew? So as of now, installing the custom IOS is pointless for people who have modchips....

You can downgrade if you have this installed.

Sounds useful I guess. Luckily I didnt update from 3.2 to 3.3! So I guess in my case there's no need for it quite yet.
