I'm surprised to see no thread about this here. I hope it's okay if I create one ?

Anyone has an idea of when it's gonna be released ? I'm dying to try this. I think it was supposed to get released in 2022, any info on why it didn't happen ?

Any info on track lists / new features etc besides what is mentioned in trailers ?

official website (underconstruction) : https://www.ctgpdx.com/

Here's the latest (I believe) trailer :

And a few other videos :

Could be official…

Wait…nope.

I think, I'm not actually sure here, but I think the reason they didn't release in 2022 is because of the booster pack... Imagine releasing a huge mod like this with online support and every 3-4 months you gotta patch it. Mods like this are much better done EoL rather than while it's getting active updates.

Speculating, but we'll see though!

It makes sense indeed !

According to the official website, the release is postponed until after the release of wave 6 DLC, which makes sense. So probably early 2024 I guess.

Yea now all the Wave's have been released, we need this! Even if offline or local play only, I still want.

Guys, CTGPDX just got released!
Yes. Already played through most cups yesterday.
The quality of the tracks is amazing. It's very rare that the camera is in an angle where you can't see how the track goes on and thus fall off it but apart from that, most of them could have been from Nintendo. And that says it all. They don't look like the usual fast-tinkered tracks with low textures, low polygons and so on.

A few things you should be aware of:
  1. The most outstanding part about this is that unlike previous mods it does not replace any Nintendo tracks but instead adds all custom tracks on top. You can get to the new cups/tracks by pressing L/R on the cup selection screen. They are next to the main cups. The DLC wave cups can be accessed by pressing X.
  2. As of now, only single player and splitscreen multiplayer are available in this first release, no online (or Switch-LAN-Play) multiplayer and no wireless/ad-hoc local multiplayer. I especially hope the latter will be available in the next update as it's the primary way I play it with my friends.
  3. As with all LayeredFS mods it uses your main MK8D savegame so everything you've unlocked (vehicle parts and so on) stays unlocked
  4. Sadly the new custom tracks are currently not appearing in the versus mode (aka custom cup) randomizer. So if you let it pick tracks randomly, only Nintendo courses (vanilla and DLC tracks) are picked. I hope this is worked on in a future update as well.
  5. Another downside as for now: Progress is not tracked among the new cups as of now. This means you can't "three star" the new cups by achieving 60 points as all new cups are only treated like the "Mushroom Cup" (the first of the vanilla Nintendo cups).
  6. Track creators, (custom) soundtrack names and a speed-o-meter are now displayed.
I think for a first release this is very impressive. This applies to the fact that no tracks are replaced but added on top and the sheer quality among the tracks. The public release took forever but you can tell they took their time to playtest. I've played many custom tracks and modpacks in the past and many lacked from buggy tracks where you could fall off the track and are trapped in a forever looping bug where Lakitu pulls you up only to release you again "off the track" (so he keeps pulling and releasing you forever). I didn't encounter this issue on CTGP-Deluxe yet.

I wonder if it could be used with lan-play if all parties install the mod.
Of course you can. As soon as they re-activate "local multiplayer" in an upcoming update of the mod as it is currently disabled. Only single player and couch-coop (aka splitscreen multiplayer) are accessable from the main menu.

Yes, but while Nintendo use the term "local multiplayer" as their term for local wireless ad-hoc multiplayer (aka multiple people in the same room with multiple consoles), the CTGP-D team incorrectly uses the term for couch-coop (aka splitscreen on one console).

I love the mod, but I was honestly disappointed by two things: the first is that many tracks were already present online (gamebanana) for some time, so they can be downloaded and tried individually. It's not a real problem per se, but I would have expected a couple of improvements to some tracks because some, in my opinion, are ugly to look at.. one that comes to mind is the cathedral for example, some areas of that route are empty.
Another problem is that on some tracks, if you play in split screen there is a fps drop. For now I've tried playing 2 in split screen and the fps drop is noticeable
