I've played more now and I love the different counter attacs where you have to press additionally on buttons to make the finishing blow.

I love how you can just spam the button. Combat = too easy.

Yeah, you probably could spam your way through all the fights, but, as the above poster mentioned, there are a few fun combos and counters, especially later in the game. I highly suggest making use of them to make the game more interesting, as well as ensuring that Altair doesn't take damage.

But the main attraction of this game -- to me, anyway -- is the stealth / platforming. It gets pretty darn fun later on in the game. The DS gives you a surprising feeling of height at certain points throughout the game, and it's these segments that really offer the most fun. I definitely suggest folks stick with the game if they enjoy this sort of thing, which I, myself, very much do. It gets better as you go on. But the fighting never does get very interesting. The Y+Y+X move was pretty much the one I used the most after a while; it's very effective and the coolest-looking, I think.

Though I don't rate the game very highly, I'll likely play through it once or twice more, simply because it appeals to my taste in DS games.

anyone know how to get past the guards ? (the part where you dressed like that guy and now have to distract them to get in).

If you're referring to the segment where you're dressed as a scholar, you just have to hold the A button and stay close to the other scholars, so as to blend in with them. Once you get past the guards, you'll see a cutscene that directs you to a tent where you'll have to free some prisoners. Make sure you walk throughout this entire area, so that you don't bring attention to yourself.

Ok thanks for the help, I finally finished the game and must say it was quite good (except for certain frustrating parts o_O ).

The ending was kind... bleh, kinda hacked off, but still nice game, let's hope Ubisoft keeps up this kind of DS efforts and brings out more good games in the future.

Sure thing.

Yeah, I think with this game and the BiA DS game Ubisoft has shown that they can create some fun stuff on the DS. Now, they just need to dedicate the time and resources to Gameloft to allow them to make a more polished end result. But both games, I think, have tons of potential. Neither does anything very new or innovative, but on the DS they're fun to play on the go.

The ending of Altair's Chronicles wasn't too bad, but I know what you mean. However, since it's a prequel, perhaps that's how it leads into the console game. I couldn't say, having not played that game.

Ubisoft didn't make the game so there's nothing for them to keep up... apart from handing over their star licenses to poor developers.

Gameloft has potential; their games- not so much.

The final boss was pathetic. Same thing as the two previous encounters and a speed-kill knock off in every way, but a good way.

Well, you give Gameloft too much credit in the wrong area in too little in the area of their actual involvement. The bottom line is that the publisher pays the bills and, in most cases, takes on the role of active producer. A development team like Gameloft doesn't enjoy the same sort of success as, say, Will Wright's team, who gets a blank check from EA to do whatever they want pretty much. But take a developer like Team Fusion. They had some great ideas for Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 (Wii), but it's all too evident that EA kept them on a very short leash with respect to budget and a window of time with which to work on the game.

No, Ubisoft's name is on the box, they pay the bills and, ultimately, they're responsible for what they put out there. That passing the buck shit doesn't cut it with big Japanese publishers / developers and I'm of the mind that it shouldn't play here on this hemisphere, not if they're wanting to charge the same premium price for their wares.
