I'm having trouble with some of my save files. Here's an example using my Mario games:

1) New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64 DS save all my progress with no problem. I can turn the DS off and come back later and it will reload the save file from my previous save point.

2) However, games like Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis and Super Princess Peach will not save any data. I played through two levels of March of the Minis and it appears in the Save File slot while playing, but is gone when I reboot the system. Super Princes Peach says the save data was lost and must be formated, thus loosing all data.

What is causing this with some save files and not others?

I am still having the occasional game refuse to use the old save game when using Dscovered instead it is overwritten but it has never corrupted the entire SD card. I will occasionaly see two save games listed one with a truncated filename, example below.

Sonicandbullony.nds
Sonicandbullony.sav
Sonica~1.SAV

The thing I don't understand is if I run DScovered and then load YSmenu through Dscovered and then run the games from the YSmenu screen the old save games will work fine. So the problem must lie with Dscovered.nds or loader.nds not YSmenu.nds.

The other strange behaviour is DScovered requires r4patch.dat in the root of the card or it will exit back to YSmenu on game load. Ysmenu will operate fine without this file.

I have never had the problem with the shortened save filenames every before. I can't think what the reason might be.
As for requiring r4patch.dat, I would assume that file is only required for the R4ds, I have been using ttds exclusivly for testing, but again, I can't think of a reason for ysmenu requiring it under one situation and not under another.

I don't know the loader.nds behavior as I HAVE NOT used it, but does it use short filename? I do recommend using long filename for YSMenu.ini...
#I should test my loader.nds on DSTT later (with nds.yslaunch.nds)

The included loader.nds does not use the short filename. On;y the long filename is used for ysmenu.
The short filename is there for akaio, which seemed to require it.

some of my gamesaves are not working, anyone using this should be careful and backup save datas, also is it really slow when its loading? im using a DSPhat

Were these saves created by ysmenu initially? most cart software has slightly different format save files from eachother.
yes all of my game saves were created by ysmenu, ive tried making a new save file on some of my games but when i load the game again, the gamesaves are missing as if no save was created, but when i use the ysmenu it can make a savefile but when i load it directly on dscovery the savefile gets corrupted again:(

I Have a DSI XL with R4 1.18

I think this will help you:

@all:
I think I've found the problem why the sav files get corrupt!
I used the alternative loader from Xenon++ and the moonshell 2 link wrapper method to test it.
When I'm loading the NDS Link file with the #### code, it works, it works.
But when I'm changing the code from #### to the game code like BKIE for Spirit tracks with a Hex editor, It works, but DScovered will create a 1KB sav in the folder with the NDS Link file but the real sav in the NDS ROM folder is not changed!
I hope this will help!

DScovered Alternative General Extlink Wrapper

This is loader.nds to replace /d_system/loader.nds.
With this you can avoid YSMenu...

Tested with nds.NDSLoader.nds (Rudolph's ak2loader.nds loader)

How to install:
1.edit loader.ext with text editor (firstline: your desired loader)
2.put loader.nds and loader.ext to /d_system/

#I hope legacy DSision will also be updated, could you?
OK I actually got game running with this + YSboot on DSTT with 8gt SDHC. It still makes 16b saves (rewrites existing) and the AUTO_BOOT= stays in ysmenu.ini so I can't use YSmenu as primary firmware if I use DScovers.

DScovered.exe makes black pictures on linux. Is there way do them manually? It also puts new games last ones on list, not alphabetical.

Oh yeah. I got an idea last night. Now all games are in one flow and .exe doesn't even regonize homebrew. Is it possible to make .exe regonize homebrew by name and make some kind of own lists? For example: Games, Homebrew and favorites or action, RPG, race...favorites. Then possibility to put own wallpaper to each list

Just wanted to throw down my two cents. I love all the great work everyone has done in the homebrew community. I don't know if lots of other people have been having any problems getting dscovered to work on there ak2.1 but thanks to hours of digging through gbatemp i found the solution for me.

I like AKAIO so i allways run it but you could make this cover flow a great front end for kids or non tech savvy gf lol.

anyways thanks to Normmatt and Spinal, XENON++, and anyone with more brain power then me lol

running akaio 1.6 rc, Install a clean moonshell 2.09, use normmatt's 2.09 fix and XENON++ dscovered alternative general loader.

Once you have akaio and moonshell setup and running patch the overlay.dll with the one from normmatt's fix. copy his nds.akaio.nds loader to /moonshl2/extlink replace both _vh.VeryHugeNDSLoader.nds & _hn.HugeNDSLoader.nds with nds.akaio.nds keeping there original file names.(_vh.VeryHugeNDSLoader.nds & _hn.HugeNDSLoader.nds)

Setup your dscovered.nds like you would from windows making sure you use the XENON++ alternitive loader.nds inplace of the one in /d_system/
XENON++'s alternative loader.nds comes with a extlink'ing file called loader.ext
edit loader.ext so the first line is

/moonshl2/extlink/_vh.VeryHugeNDSLoader.nds

this let me boot commercial roms on my akaio fw from dscovered.nds without ever really opening moonshell.

I'm sure you all have found other or better ways of doing this but i tried to use the linklauncher method from XENON++, and the ysmenu thing fell flat for me, and i didn't get to far on AAcrazyman's tut either.

this is the nicest way i think for n00bs with a ak2.1 since you can keep your games anywhere and still use the dscovered win setup prog to sync your covers.

I've just tested my loader_akaio.nds, it seems to be working, with softreset also. Will be uploading the next DScovered update soon.
You can expect -

-DSCovery-
Fixed illegal characters bug

-DSCovered-
Settings (finally)
-- Boot homebrew through external loader
-- Soft Reset (through compatible loader.nds)
-- Up to 4 different loaders allowed, included in download are ysmenu and akaio loaders.
Credits (replaces Information)
Pre-converted DScovered for R4DS, TTDS, AceKard

OK not YSMenu will create a 16b save, the problem is DSCovered itself!
I've tested it like this:
I replaced the loader.nds with an empty textfile. Then I started a NDS Rom in DSCovered and I got a Purple screen (because there is no real loader.nds, just a renamed empty textfile)
Now I looked if there is my 512kb save file, but my save file is now 16b!!!
I hope you can fix it, spinal_cord.

I have three things.
1. How do you set DScovered as default firmware? "System File Missing" should be displayed.
2. As you support loader_akaio.nds, you should not support nds.uims206.nds (the author doesn't want support)
3. extlink, not exlink.

1. For which card?
TTDS - dldi patch and rename to ttmenu.dat
Acekard - dldi patch and rename to akmenu.nds
R4ds - dldi patch and encrypt with r4encrypt.
Others - no idea, usually just dldi patch and rename to something.

2. No problem, only my loader_ysmenu.nds and loader_akaio.nds will be supplied with DScovered.
3. Either way it wont be there.

Download, will update front page later.

Thanks for the new version! The save files are working now tested with the loader.nds and Xenon++ alternative loader!

this new update is totally stellar, so whats next now that you got this thing working top notch. Can we start brainstorming cool upgradges????

I only have one request im sure other people might have some too i noticed one dude wants like a child lock or something like pwd protection.

I would love to see a power scroll feature using the touch screen?!?!?! so you can drag you thumb across the screen and scroll through super quick.

This coverflow app is cool.

Hats off to everyone.
