Hello,

Lately I have been getting more interested in hacking on Pokemon Ultra Sun so I can get more Moon balls, fill out my pokedex and a few other things.
Also getting a few games for free could always come in handy.

Anyway I did some research and found out about Homebrew and CFW. I found this site 3ds.guide that exactly explains how to install boot9strap, but you need a second DS for this with already boot9strap on it if I'm not mistaken?
I also saw that you could install the homebrew through the game 'Freaky Forms Deluxe' pretty easily.

My question is what is the best thing to do for me here? I reckon if you are really into hacking you rather have the CFW but I don't really need it for major hacking just a few small things so I guess the Homebrew is the best option here for me?
Let me know what you guys recommend me doing :)

It would be more expensive to buy Freaky Forms (which would only get you homebrew and no CFW) than it would be to buy a flashcart for ntrboot (which would allow you to have CFW). So, seems obvious! You want to follow this guide

Thank you :)
Is there any difference between the flashcarts or does it not really matter which one I buy as long as it supports my firmware?

There's a list of supported flashcards, and also a picture to compare with the ones that are compatible.

Yes but what is actually the differences between those flashcards that 3ds.guide shows?
Let's grab the: R4i Gold 3DS Plus it has no time bomb (which is good because it will always be able to launch .nds) Then for other notes it states: Comes pre-flashed with ntrboot (internal switch to switch between ntrboot and NDS modes); do not manually flash with ntrboot.

When I look at the: R4i Gold 3DS it says by other notes: All RTS revisions are compatible. Non-RTS revisions 6, 7, and 8 will be detected but are incompatible.

What is actually the difference then? Like I honestly do not know what it means.
Tbf all I need is a flashcart to get a CFW so I can hack in a few pokemons, items and download roms, I will most likely still buy the new games in stores as a physical copy.

So what is in my case then the most logical flashcard to buy?

Whichever one is cheapest that will work with your setup (ie don't get one that can't be launched on your firmware).

Recommended to buy a new micro SD too still using the default one, if so what size is recommended?
For the Flashcart or the 3DS?
Note: Homebrew cannot get you free games. CFW is basically Homebrew+, you can launch Homerew via CFW very easily, you don't even need an entry point.

Ye was planning on buying the R4i Gold 3DS Plus but it gives me also the option to buy a Micro SD (I still got the default SD card in my DS) so I was wondering if it was handy to get then a 32-64GB Micro SD too while I order the R4i Gold 3DS Plus

You are better off getting a micro SD from a brick and mortar store. Will be cheaper and won't be fake.

If you're using the Plus, you don't need the SD card to use NTRBoot. I personally would buy the R4i Gold 3DS RTS, as it can be manually flashed, but then you would need a microSD to launch the flasher .nds file.

nds-card is the best site. Despite long-ass shipping times and a janky PayPal proccess, their products are 100% legit, at a decent price, and support the temp.
