Gaming cooking guide?

Wtf, nothing happends when I give them any food.
No hp boost,tp boost or def/attack boost etc.
I see that there is like 6 categories of food, sea,meat,grain,snacks,vegetable and "other"
Is that 6 diffrent because there are 6 characters with diffrent taste? im a bit confused.
