Hey, I was wondering if it’s at all possible to convert a BRBNK file into a usable soundfont.

I’ve seen people make Wii Shop and Mii Channel soundfonts and I’m wondering how it was done. The only program I could find that is able to handle BRBNK files at all is BrawlBox, which always seems to crash when I attempt to open a BRBNK in it.

Any knowledge of if/how it’s possible would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

BRBNK (Binary Revolution BaNK) is a sub file format found in BRSAR files from many Wii games. It consists of a table of instance parameters that link to the audio samples used in MIDI-like sequences (BRSEQ files).
I don't think so.

I don't think so.

Hm, I see... so it seems like the BRBNKs just contain pointers to samples and not the samples themselves. Thank you for this info.

So in that case, I have two questions. First off, where would the samples for system titles be stored then? I’m currently trying to get the soundfont used in the Everybody Votes Channel, and when I extracted the BRSAR it contains, all there were was BRBNK files and BRSEQ files. I assumed the BRBNK files contained them but it appears I was wrong. So then would the samples be contained in another sound file, or perhaps the Wii bios? Any insight to where I could find them would be greatly appreciated.

My second question is could the BRBNK files be used to an advantage of which samples are used as what instruments? I assume not since really no programs can properly decipher the files, but I’d like to make sure.

Thanks again for the help.

I might be wrong, but I think the brbnk files DO contain the sound data. I just took a quick glance at a brbnk file in a hex editor, and found a section magic "WAVE" that isn't documented in the Custom Mario Kart Wiiki.

I know i have the same ishue. What ive found was in eatch file brbnk it contains the sounds for eatch instrument. So when called apon a file stored somewhere will play each sound at a certain time and for how long. its a method nintendo uses to minimize storage use as much as possible so when you make a song its stored in 1 file and its copacity is like 5MB that would only be 1 song and another for another part of the menu like a second song which is 4MB. In Total its around 9MB excluding all other system files. So thats a lot and if you use just intruments for each song you dont need big sound files that could take up a lot of space for each song that could have the same instruments in it. So thats most likly why its all intruments insted of full songs. So if possible they used MIDI or MID files for the sounds to make up a song. I dont know yet how do get somthing like that
