Noob here.

I've read about the video converters here for the 3DS and managed to make them work, but I'd like to ask for a bit of help on trying to convert 2D vids into 3D. Every time I try it, it just converts the "left" video but does nothing for the "right" one.

If anyone can point me to a tutorial, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

3d videos have two separate videos, each of your eyes is shown a different version. 2d videos is only one video, so there's no way (for non-filmproducers at least) of converting 2d to 3d.

you CAN convert 2D video to be viewable on a 3DS, but it will stay 2D.
afaik the converters should be able to do it
if not select the option that allows 2 seperate videos as l/r and select the same one twice

You should be able to convert 2D movies to 3D as there are several "3D movies" that were filmed in regular 2D and then converted to 3D later. It should just be a matter of getting the right software though you might need a very powerful computer (like say, 8 to 16 graphics cards) to do it in a reasonable amount of time.

the computing power required should be neglegable in comparison to the rest
the hard part is deciding which part of the frame should be placed where, mostly manually, for every single frame(~25 per second of movie)
can and has be done, but is really impractical for amateurs

on the other hand if you only want some 3D "fun" effect, like eg if you were projecting the movie onto a spherical surface
that should be doable for everyone

the regular 3ds video converter right now can only make clip from 2d to 2d or side by side 3d to 3ds 3d...
if you want to convert a clip from 2d to 3d you need a program like Roxio 3D and then use the 3ds video converter to change to 3ds format
