So i got this game free from the epic store (nvidia promotion). Ive only played a little but... here are my initial thoughts
-this game is very DEMANDING on specs with Ray Tracing. Its Insane. Im playing on a RTX 2080 SUPER and having RTX(ray tracing) on, it avg 63-68fps but can dip very low to the 40s, and this is just the beginning...
-YES this game has PS3 quality graphics, in case you were wondering. It plays very smooth though like a ps3 game. It the destructables that make it necessary to have ps3 graphics. Changing the resolution higher doesnt help, its just a ps3 game.
-Back to framerates. for 1080p i saw 63-68fps avg. 1440p 33-37fps avg. 2160p 17-27fps avg with RTX high. Even without ray tracing this game is very demanding.
-It plays like Infamous(ps3) mixed with Star Wars The Force Unleashed. very smooth and very responsive.
This game shows that ray tracing simply isnt ready right now, maybe in 5 years it will be but thats only for 1080p, its hard to say if 8k will be the standard by then already but graphics cards would have to make a quantum leap in a short period to achieve ray tracing at 4k at that point. Its a nice game that tries to fully demo what ray tracing can do but for just having the aesthetics alone and purchasing a RTX card simply isnt worth the upgrade.
As for me I missed out on buying a GTX series card but there were a lot of scalpers with gpus in that era so it simply wasnt worth it either and going new with a RTX card was bette than buying a GTX card.
But anyone reading this, DONT BUY A RTX CARD!!! just for raytracing, its not ready and maybe never will be. Go with AMD RX5700XT or higher instead. I realized that my card as "Coil Whine" and its very annoying. I researched the phenomenon and it seems to be happening with a lot of rtx cards, even the really expensive ones, which is not acceptable. Of course i find this out a few days after the 1month return period so Im kinda Screwed.
