Looked for the answer for this but could not find it, I'm using Configurable USB Loader, primarily because its the only one that can dump games for me. I'm currently using a 1TB WD Essentials external HDD. Formatted to FAT 32, emulators read roms fine and WiiMC plays movie file fine via USB. Dumping and loading games works fine using Configurable USB Loader, the only thing not working is when I try to download covers from WiiTB it gives errors: Cannot create dir usb:/usb-loader/covers...etc. etc. Anyone know why this is? It can write the dumps to the HDD fine, but apparently not the covers and nor create these directories, anyone know whats going on?

download the package on first page of thread and put on usb drive. It will put all the directories you need on the drive.

Thanks for the reply, which one though? There are quite a few packages on the front, is the covers one?

from the error description, u can probably solve it by creating the following folder structure on your hard drive
QUOTE said:
create dir usb:/usb-loader/covers...etc. etc

just create new folders, name them properly and save them in the right place. Then u should be able to download covers. Or u can download ANY FULL package for cfg loader, they all contain a dozen or so covers so that will have the proper folder structure already in place (I'm actually shocked this loader can't create the needed directories itself...)

I've been using this great loader for some time now. I recently updated to version 57a. Now the program will not auto load my config.txt file, and will not save a new one. It is also not loading my covers, or themes from the HDD. I am getting errors just like the person with the new WD hdd. (blazingwolf) I have been succuessfull in transfering the config and covers etc to the sd card, but I do believe there is something broken with loading from hdd currently.

Just like blazingwolf I can load games, and even install new ones. But I cannot save settings, or covers to HDD. Earlier versions do work, so fairly sure its not something I have done wrong.

It can create directories but it doesn't create the whole directory structure. I.e., when you tell it to use usb:/usb-loader/covers, it will only be able to do it if usb:/usb-loader already exists. This is not a problem for people that actually followed the instructions or those that created a config.txt file (to correctly indicate the base directory they want to use), but I guess we can change the directory creation function to create each sub-directory in turn for the .dol only people...

@blazingwolf: What the others are telling you to do is to install the v56.zip files before installing the v57a .dol. Instructions are here.

The loader never saves config.txt, so I don't know what you mean there (it can save settings.cfg, but that has a very different set of options to config.txt). Are you saying it has always been working from the hard drive and only just now started failing? Or are you trying to copy it over to the drive for the first time?

When moving files to the hard drive, there are several right ways you can do it and a few wrong ones. All of the right ones assume a FAT formatted drive (don't even attempt to put support files or covers on NTFS).

Right ways:

1. Move the usb-loader support directory and the apps subfolder to the hard drive. You will then be launching the .dol from the hard drive and reading all support files from there. Your .dol, base directory, support files and cover files will be on the hard drive. Note that this option is not suitable for every drive because some drives are incompatible with forwarders/HBC.

2. Move the usb-loader support directory to the hard drive but leave the apps subfolder on the SD and delete any config.txt from the usb-loader and apps directories. You will then be launching the .dol from the SD and reading all support files from the drive. Your base directory, support files and cover files will be on the hard drive.

3. Edit config.txt to change the covers_path options to point to the hard drive, but leave all other files on the SD. You will then be launching the .dol from the SD and reading all support files (except covers) from the SD too. Only your cover files will be on the hard drive.

Things that can make it all go wrong:

Leaving a config.txt file on the SD card in either the sd:/usb-loader/ directory or in the directory where the .dol is located will make Cfg assume that as the base directory. It will assume other support files are there too. Thus, it is a very bad idea to copy the directories over. They should be moved.

Trying to do any of this is a recipe for disaster on NTFS.

Not every drive supports having everything on it. The best method for compatibility's sake while keeping most stuff on the drive is method 2 above.

i been having an issue (well today is the second time)
the cg loader suddenly wont see the covers... so i go "update covers" and he will show "etc etc unable to create sd:/usbloader/etcetc
the first time.. i just took the SD out and put it on the pc thinking it might be bad on me or something.. but it was working.. i put it back and nothin happened.. the cfg loader was able to see everything

today it happened again.. before i do the same procedure (Taking it out.. test on PC, put back) is there somethiing i should check or change or update or something=?

Can CFG play games from DVD?

On the first page of this thread, in the features list, it says

- Loading games from DVD

So, any disc (retail and backup) does not boot.
Is there a secret button I have to press?

have you tried pressing the menu button(minus) then select the option to boot DVD

No, I have not tried to press the "-" button, I was afraid of the loader wanting to remove a game. But I will go and try it now.

Thanks.

yeah that was the older button layout, plus if it was to remove a game it would ask for confirmation first

Yea, there is a menu when I press "-", but I never knew that until now. I know of the confirmation, but just didn't want to go that far.

But when I insert my Splinter Cell backup, it wants to boot the version I have on my HDD (which don't work from HDD) instead of booting my backup disc. hmm. I guess removing the ISo from the HDD would be in order, but still don't explain why when I select boot from disc, it actually boots from HDD.

Have your looked through the "Alt Dol" list to see if there an alternative DOL you can use?

Any resolution for the Freezing of Monster Hunter on Menu's (If your inactive too long, or stay on one for more than 10ish seconds), or the freezing that happens on the loading screen right before starting a 4 Player Quest?

Using 222/223 V5, tried every option i could think of and still got it. Time to downgrade to V4?

This tends to indicate that the base directory is not being detected correctly. This could be due to your hard drive taking a while to wake up or several other factors (many forwarder related). If it happens again, check what Cfg lists as "Cfg Base" on the global options page.

Make sure you pick "boot disc" and not "boot game". It should then boot from the disc. You can also assign the boot disc action to a button if you like. An example is "button_- = boot_disc" which would make the - button take you straight to the confirmation page for booting the disc.

Use a v4 version of 38 merged with 37.
