configurable usb loader

can u start up a game and shut the game after a few mins of playing?
then start the loader and try to run a another game. Does the bootingproces hang or not?

if its not hanging then i must be do something wrong or maybe downgrade to the a version
I don't really understand what you are asking here, but that problem you mention isn't spindown, it's the rev 13 problem. When using rev 13 (a or b), if you want to switch games, either push the home button and then choose Reset or hold down the power button on the remote. Otherwise the loader will hang when you try to choose a new game. Read posts 1940-1944 too, they cover the exact same problem.

QUOTE(invu @ Jul 9 2009, 12:57 AM) I've been away for a while.
Can someone please show me the way to alternative dols?
How do I get it to work, which games profit from this, what are the prerequisits, ...?

Just a (few) links and I would be happy.

Sorry, if this is too off-topic.
MasterMo's answer before gave you the method, but if you want step-by-step instructions and a link to a post with those games that need this, go here.
thank you. Sorry i am dutch and its hard for me to pick the right words

oggzee, I have a non-urgent but probably simple feature request. Can we please make the gui resources selectable by theme, so that files in the sd:/usb-loader/theme/resources directory override those in sd:/usb-loader/resources?

This sounds like a great idea:

Why not just start writing standalone/forwarder hybrids? If the .dol to be forwarded on sd card is found, then forward, else take the .dol that's integrated. It's not that complicated, and would replace both kinds of channels.wanna try to do it?

with perhaps checking for the presence of boot.dol on both sd and usb.
and maybe even this: fisr look for apps/usbloader_cfg and if not found look for apps/usbloader
that would combine all channel types into one.
Yes, i will do it ...

Here it is: < http://cloud.github.com/downloads/Narolez/...G_Forwarder.rar >

CODE
USBLoaderCFG_Forwarder-UCXF.wad

ÂÂÂÂ1. sd:/apps/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol
ÂÂÂÂ2. sd:/apps/usbloader/boot.dol
ÂÂÂÂ3. usb:/apps/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol

Readme and forwarder dol for Preloader are included ...

That is already done, but the resources directory is not used at all anywhere, that is given just as an example.
To modify the resources, copy them first to either sd:/usb-loader/ or sd:/usb-loader/themes/name
Example:
sd:/usb-loader/favorite.png
Let me know if it works ok, i haven't tested this much.

I have added this new forwarder too to the first post.

Although, this is just the forwarder part, wiipower also suggested using the same channel as a full channel in case boot.dol is not found:

But still, with the searching in place, this is the best forwarder so far.

Latest release seems very stable and looks great.

We now have the option of viewing the back covers but it does not download any yet, will this happen in a later release or do I have to edit the urls/cfig files?

Also is game banners in the pipeline or spinning discs on loading?

Great work

This request has exceeded the maximum number of requests for a feature, so now full cover support is bumped to the bottom of my very long TODO list.

Spinning disks on loading? I was thinking more of a quick game of tetris or something.

Oh yeah, it does work (at least the pointer, I didn't try the others. Thanks for the instructions, they should probably be made a little clearer on where you can place them in README-CFG.

I'm gone 1-2 days and you've already implemented online updates?
Awesome =), this actually works out quite nicely because I'm going on vacation so I don't have to bother with swapping the sd card in and out

You rock xD

I have some favorites selected and I assume there is a way to view ONLY the favorite games but am unsure how. This was probably explained in one of the flurry of releases. Anyone give me a rundown of the "Favorites" feature please?

From README-CFG:
- Favorite Games
Favorite game is marked in the game options screen. To switch between
all games and favorite games, press 2 in either gui or console mode.

I can't update to the latest version of 35rc, I am at version 35t1 now, I can download to either versions of 35b, 35a6 or 34, how can I update to the new version please? thanks

Depending on your console size, it might just be hidden as the first entry. Press up on the D-Pad with 35b selected. You should see the highlight gone, but in the release notes section it should say:

release = 35rc (release candidate)
Stability improvements
Added coverflow modes to gui_style
Save gui style and rows settings
Online update: improved detection
of boot.dol location

yup you are correct, thanks for the help, should I change my folder from usbloader to USBLoader, that's what I see as the update path?

No, it's not case-sensitive

It should just go to wherever your current dol is located.

Yes, i know, but i don't know how to do it one channel WAD. In one WAD, i can only inject one dol - forwarder DOL or usbloader DOL. To write "forwarder hybrids" you must implement the forwarder code in the loader, right?

While a nice idea, I personally don't see the advantage (in the long run) of integrating the channel with the forwarder.....unless of course you are prepared to consistently update the channel portion OR make it simple enough for the end user to inject an updated dol without disrupting the forwarder. I think the updated forwarder with the updated paths is more than enough, as the previous version had only pointed to one location that is not named the same in the latest archives. Good work my friend! Works great on this end.

I downloaded v35rc. Everything is OK. Very very good job.

Just one suggestion. Your distribution (35rc) now has 13 files in the sd:/usb-loader/ folders. Some of them could conflict with others from different loaders if not renamed in config.txt. In any case everything seems confused if spread in the usb-loader folder used by others.
I simply suggest to consider the opportunity to create a folder for the specific file of Config Loader, for example "CFGloaderFiles" (I provided a similar suggestion to another loader too).
For example you may have:

sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/background_wide.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/background.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/bg_black_wide.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/bg_black.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/bg_gui.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/bg_white_wide.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/bg_white.png
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/config.txt
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/resources/
sd:/usb-loader/CFGloaderFiles/themes/
sd:/usb-loader/titles.txt
sd:/usb-loader/codes/
sd:/usb-loader/covers/

The aims of the folder are: group togheter the config and auxiliary files of Config Loader, do not spread them and confuse them among other files of other loaders, allows in the future to simply add functionalities with no conflicts with other loaders, allow future online update of the auxiliary files.
Clearly, covers, titles.txt, ocarina codes, wiitdb.zip, are not specific files of Config Loader and hence can be shared with other loaders, for this reason they should not be placed in the "proprietary" folder "CFGloaderFiles" (again, this is an example name).

I know that it is possible to take everything is inside sd:/usb-loader/ and locate it is sd:/apps/usbloader_cfg/ . In any case, having a distribution with just 4 stuff in sd:/usb-loader/ ("titles.txt" and the folders "codes", "covers" and "CFGloaderFiles") is more clear and elegant in my opinion than the one provided so far (which is awesome, works extremely well and for this very reason deserves of any possible improvements)

Thanks again for your perfect job.
