Gaming Computer won't turn on

Yeh there's your problem, a dead PSU.

I'm not sure how old the model is, but the item itself is brand new.

Can't you get a new one/ refund then if you just got it? If not you can get cheap ones online for about $20-$50 depending on the power you want.

It's a 2009 model but the company is liquidating. Though if I went to NCIX where I bought it, they'll probably give me a new one.

As long as you have a receipt for proof of purchase it doesn't matter because the place where you bought it from will either have to give you a replacement (same make or another) or your money back which you use to buy another PSU

It sounds like you haven't completely ruled out a faulty power switch. Take everything off the case headers and bridge the power pins with a ball-point pen.

there should be an LED on the motherboard somewhere when you have plugged everything in. if its on you can rule out psu. otherwise do a simple test usingthis guide

instead of using a harddrive or something, test it with a case fan. if the fans start rotating then its some thing thats up with the motherboard.

Your HDD lead seems to be around the wrong way + is on the neg is the power switch the same?
Unplug your power supply from motherboard there should 1 green wire in the 24 pin use a wire to connect the green wire to any black wire and turn on to see if the fans start

Fan's didn't start. It made a slight and short "bzzt" sound though (not when I flipped the switch) when the psu was on and I inserted the paper clip.

Edit: scratch that, just saw the pics in the previous page. I guess 110v must be ok for Canada. You would have known if it wasn't, big blue flash and a loud bang!

The psu is suppose to be OFF when you insert the connection wire!
The "bzzt" sound was probably your fuse blowing as you inserted the wire into a live circuit

I know it's supposed to be off, I did it that way first, and it was silent.

Some PSUs won't turn on Green to earth. The correct start up that works for all PSUs is green to grey (PS_ON to PWR_OK). Earthing out PS_ON will work on most PSUs but it is not correct. Don't leave it turned on for too long in this condition, PSUs do not like running without a load.

Edit: leave the paper clip in the connector while you quickly test it. If you just touch it momentarily it will turn on for a split second and then off again. This could be why you heard a quick buzz and then nothing happend.

It made the quick bzzt when I turned it on after connecting green to grey, but that's about it. Since it's a Saturday I'm 99% sure NCIX is closed unfortunately

Sorry to hear that it's not working out. The online customer support for NCIX is closed today, but if you live in the Greater Vancouver area you can actually walk into the stores for in-person assistance. If not, you should leave them an RMA message ASAP and they'll likely solve it for you on Monday.
