Hardware Component Problems

I have an old Wii with component out with an Emerson TV. On occasion the video signal will go out for a few seconds at a time, I thought it was the tv as it was failing in other ways. Then I got a new one from the same brand, completely different model. Which did not help at all. Any ideas as to how I could solve this problem?

Have you tried with another component cable?
Do you get the same problem with the composite cable?
Have you modified the unit (software/hardware) recently?

Well those were questions rather than answers.
