I just ordered a component cable for my Wii. It's not official. I believe that those doesn't exists anymore. Anyways...
Today arrived to my apartment, and I've tested the cable with my 29 Sony Trinitron and I get both sound and picture, but the picture looks diagonal and squashed when I change the Wii settings to 480p. Using the same cable, with the "standard" definition looks as good as composite/rca.
Then I thought to test the cable on a 4K LG SmartTV, and it fucking looks the same as if I just connected my Wii with the standard composite/rca cable, image still looks blurry with both cables and the input lag stays the same.

I then decided to test the cable with 240p Suite, and it detected the cable as it gave me 480p options. So the cable is being recognized by the Wii as an "HD Cable".

I can sort of make it work if I do the following:

  • Connect the composite to the rear of my TV where the Component inputs are. Set my TV to Video 4.
  • Connect the RCA to the front of my TV where the Composite inputs are.
  • Turn on the Wii with the Component. Set the TV to 480p. This will make my picture garbled.
  • Desconnect the Component cable, and connect my Composite cable. Set my TV to Video 2 to see the picture "fine".
  • Go to any app... and then desconnect my Composite, and then connect my Component and go the Video 4 and it will look good... until I open something.

What am I missing here? Of course, it's a third party/pirate cable... I will return it today, but... I just want to rule out all the possibilities before I do so.

So... anyone can guess what's happening here?

I guess is a bad cable i buy a really cheap and generic one some years ago it cost about 8 bucks and never have a visual problem like the one you have, pray that is the cable and not the port on your wii.

PD I'm from mexico too and buy the cable in plaza de la tecnología.

There's nothing wrong with my wii. It's definitely the fucking cable.
Here's a photo of the picture it's giving me:

The seller won't fucking reply to my devolution statements.

I'll go to La Plaza de la Tecnología or even to Meabe to get another cable.

@Draxikor Do you have by chance the name or the brand of your cable?

You don't happen to have another TV set in the house, to test this, right?

I just got a component cable and works good (third party as well), but the things you describe are really weird. Seems the TV isn't handling 480p that well through component

See if this helps:

I bought the cable because I have a 4K LG TV and me and my family are big fans of Mario Party. Of course, it's unplayable due to Input Lag when I connect my Wii to that TV.

When I connect the Component to the 4K TV, I change the settings on the Wii to "EDTV/HDTV 480p" and the picture quality looks the same, and the input lag is still there.

When I do the same in my old SONY CRT, the picture looks like the photo I posted.

I've tried 240p Test Suite in my 4K TV using the cable, and it doesn't shows 480p options.
But Nintendont allows me to force progressive scan mode and if I keep the button B pressed when booting a game, it let's me choose if I want to display in progressive scan mode.

This is so weird... like it works but can't?

I don't know, I really want to return the fucking cable to the person who sold me.

Ah... the service menu... yes I've messed with that some months ago just to sort of fix geometry and colors.
I don't think it has something to do with that? Maybe yes...

BUT why is the cable not working on my 4K TV neither? :creep:

I am unsure if there are electronic components inside the cable that get weird if working at 480p?

You shouldn't have input lag. Is your TV in game mode?
I had mine in default settings and made a world of difference. Now is in game mode permanently.

Yes it is in Game mode.
Anyway, I will return the cable.

I'm setting my eyes on those Roku thingies... I could connect that to my CRT and watch 90's music videos... or even connect my lap with an HDMI to analog converters.

I've bought one year ago one like this on Mercadolibre, and it worked correctly, it only showed some static when using it near any kind of cable box when the former was turned on.
A lot of sellers of this kind of accesories have stopped selling this kind of adapters and cables for retro consoles here in Mexico unfortunately, so maybe the one I'm recommendin' you is your latest bet, but in my experience is the best way to go.

@JuanMena Mines don't have a brand they are really generic xd is exactly like the ones in the pic

Now about inputlag unless the game runs ins 480i the only input lag that matters is the one your TV has no matter if the game mode is on every digital tv has a minimum input lag

Last edited by Draxikor,
Through component there can't be input lag. It's the image processor of the TV that adds it.
Disabling any "movie", "sports", "music" or "bathroom" mode is the best. Stick it to game mode and there is a fluid input, guaranteed.

That's the same cable I have.
