FWIW, you may want to read through the fail0verflow article again, as it was updated with a couple details at some point.
Other than the part at the end that says "Update", were there any changes? That article was really long (not that it's a bad thing) and I don't want to search for something that isn't there.

Yes, the part about 3 cores and starting them up. Coding and references in there were changed and I want to say the font/color changed. I did see the changes though. Really, unless working on the 3 core project with Maxternal (or on your own, or another group I am not aware of), it probably is not useful at this point (yet).

Note that cores 1 and 2 will start at the system reset vector, which should jump to code equivalent to the above.
It is currently unclear what controls whether the cores end up with MSR[IP]=1 (high vectors) or MSR[IP]=0(low vectors), but I’m pretty sure that at least in Wii mode you end up booting with IP=0 by default (vector 0x100 in MEM1), although one of the above settings might change that. Experiment.
Correction: Cores 1 and 2 boot with MSR[IP]=1, thus at the high vectors. The old Wii PPC EXI bootstub hardware is still present and controls the instructions read from there, so just perform the normal EXI bootstub configuration sequence from the Starbuck. This is not needed for Core 0, which already has IP=0 by the time you gain control.Just flipping the two boot bits in SCRis enough to get the two other cores up without doing anything else, although coherency will probably be broken/disabled. Also, keep in mind that this trick gets you access to all 3 cores but they still run at the old Wii speed (729MHz). Speeding up the Espresso probably requires full access to Wii U mode.

we are currently seeking individuals who can take time out of their busy lives to assist us with some testing.
ideal applicants would have access to both a Wii, and a WiiU, and will be able to tolerate tedious, repetitive testing.
you should also be available for at least one hour during each work day.

On a Wii you can block updates and it had no effect on the usefulness of the system. That's not the case with Wii U. I don't personally see it as a big deal but I can see how others might not want to (or want to just stick with their old hacked Wii and leave vWii clean)

If we're successful, and vWii gets spiffy 3-core emulators and stuff, it might become a little more tempting to hack vWii
but for now, many might see it as the same old thing and not worth it.

To clarify, this only yields access to the extra cores, not the extra RAM and the rest of the hardware. For that, you’ll need a Wii U mode exploit. We do have such an exploit, but right now I believe that, if it were released, there wouldn’t be enough developer interest to kickstart a healthy homebrew ecosystem; if e.g. a Linux port to vWii-mode Espresso is developed, I will gladly stand corrected (and such a Linux port would be directly applicable to Wii U mode, modulo a few minor memory mapping differences, so it’s not wasted effort.

Edit: this was not a swipe at Marcan. Outside of 360 scene, lately, there has been a lot of show and little go. People routinely post stuff like "We hacked it" for 3ds. Now, only a piracy device. While the reasoning is to not promote piracy (not releasing). Also, if released, people could get in, disable updates, and then keep control. I quoted Marcan's blog above. The rest is apparent from the recent displays, tweets, announcements, etc. The 3 core idea is cool, but I will believe anything I can see. This is not a flaming attempt.

Edit two: people much more known in hacking circles say it is easier to reverse iOS from Wii U mode. For dev work, people way more experienced have told me this in private. They don't care as long as no names are given. I know guys are working hard but odds are high that you finish 3 core, Linux, then how far will vWii go with 3 cores? Great if it happens but one of those" Believe it when I see it."
 
Do you have a hacked Wii? I'm baffled as t why you asked if a hacked console was a prereq.


I asked cause i dont have a game to use for the exploit i letterbombed my wii , im not prepared to buy an exploited game currently to replicate what i can do already on the wii .

Like maxternal said theres no point in hacking a vwii currently.

I look at it differently, with a modded vWii there's no point to keeping a Wii.
I bought Lego Batman used for $10, and I sold my Wii with no controllers for $80. Modded vWii does everything my modded Wii could do that I care about (CTGP and emulators). No regrets, I don't see Ninty cracking down on vWii mods.

Edward, I am not involved at all. I am cheering Maxternal and a handful of others on. Glad the testers were found.

Yeah i understand your point of view , i know were off topic but i guess its all down to personal preference , i dont plan to sell my wii as it will do for one of my kids bedrooms , and currently does all i would want to do for homebrew , well if im really honest it plays the backups my kids enjoy. I would much prefer to maintain my WiiU as is until im happy with the levels of brick protection. Each to his own .

Aww what a shame, I just registrered here to ask if there's another spot :) i own 2x wii u and 1 wii
1 x wii u is on 3.0.0 and vwii hacked the other one is clear of any hacks ... wii is hacked too.

if there's any chance I'd like to participate too.

Anyway: I like Linux a lot and I wish i could help you in any way - maybe in programming some tools in linux mode later on? Altough it would be easier if I could get hands on preheaded - in the end I know the problematics with releasing it to too many testers :)
