How about kernel access for homebrew? exploits and CFW are often hand in hand when it comes to the 3ds, but there's numerous other things that can be done with kernel access.

well you could use Decrypt9 to do some cool stuff, dynarec in emulators, booting linux (which is kinda CFW) etc.

Using mset as a way into exploits, spiderhax, rom hacks without needing hans and all of those patch files on the sd card and the cartridge

It is a kernel hack for 10.3. 10.3 does not have a CFW right now. Your explanation is invalid, because CFW is one outcome of this, legit CIA installation without CFW on 10.3 is another one.
