CING files for bankruptcy

On 1st March 2010, Cing (the developer of Another Code, Hotel Dusk, Little King's Story) filed for bankruptcy in Japan. The company has suffered liabilities totaling 256 million yen (about 2.5 million USD).

As for the rest of the "adventure" games, they're not really my genre. Still, it's always sad to see a quality developer go down the drain compared to a shitty developer staying afloat due to shovelware. Welcome to the new age of gaming...

Hopefully some key members of the studio will be picked up by another studio or company.

... Unfortunate. I guess now it's somewhat unlikely that the games they made will receive sequels, unless y'know, someone else picks up the rights to them. I'm probably completely wrong but yeah. ¬¬

This is really bad news, since I loved every game they`ve done so far... But they still have at least two games coming: Again and Last Window.

I guess it's sad to see a company blow over, but that's the nature of the business. I guess their titles were just a little too experimental. Even though I've seen great (indie-type) reviews for their games, I thought only Little King's Story worked, and I don't see a huge commercial appeal for any of their games.

Loved Hotel Dusk & Little Kings Story, such a shame that they didn't at least get some profit..

Bankruptcy doesn't always mean the end however, some companies have managed to claw their way back. It can help companies have a fresh start albeit with a lot of restrictions.

Hopefully Nintendo will buy out their IPs. I need Last Window (Hotel Dusk sequel) to get an English release. I loved Hotel Dusk so much I even bought copies for friends.

It'd probably get a fan translation at least. Hotel Dusk was really quite popular, and the DS translation scene is the largest current gen translation scene.

depends if they can get hold of the source code or not. usually the programming side of a localisation is still done by the original developer (Atlus USA doesn't have any programmers in-house for example, the only translate the script and send it back to Japan for the developer to insert) so if they no longer exist it might be tricky.

Well, this is certainly bad news for those of us waiting for the Hotel Dusk sequel. Hopefully a fan translation will be on its way soon.
And yes, this is one of the unfortunate consequences of mass pirating.

All those mentioned games are really good. Haven't played Little Kings Story yet but it on the list.

This is terrible news, CING was one of the most exciting upcoming developers out there imo. This is possibly the first time I have felt pirate's remorse and I actually bought Another Code at fullprice
