i went to restore a save file to a new copy of tomodachi life i installed but i keep getting an error.

error reads:
"Error: 0xC8804478
Failed to open save archive."

additionally, the game's icon doesnt show up on the top screen, it just appears as a black square.

i installed the game through hshop and i dont have any other issues with it

this is my first post on here so sorry if theres any issues XD

so i had deleted the original copy i had due to it breaking my homebrew apps and then redownloaded it, and after the redownload it wont work

That doesn't really answer the question. How was the original copy "breaking your homebrew apps"?

You should probably check your SD card, as SD card failures can cause all sorts of unusual problems.

Copy everything off your SD card (Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier is recommended since there's a possibility of corruption), format the card, test the empty card with h2testw, and copy everything back again. See if that fixes it. If the test fails or if you can't format the card, then you should get a new card (and copy everything to the new card after formatting and testing it).

id attempted to delete the original copy, but it wouldnt delete and when i exited data settings after trying to delete it all my homebrew apps would disappear. i dont think its anything w the sd card as everything else works perfectly fine? its just restoring backups of this one game thats the issue.

Sounds like corruption bro. Please test your SD card with h2testW.

Did you copy everything off the card first, as I described?

h2testw is only useful if the card is completely empty. It doesn't test parts of the card that already have data.

Maybe your SD card is corrupted in a way that H2TestW doesn't detect. Reformat the card (make sure to back up the data, obviously) and try again

If you get the error when you load your save data, then just back up your save data with Checkpoint and restore it again. See if that fixes it.

Also, did the black square go away?

Maybe your SD card is corrupted in a way that H2TestW doesn't detect.

the black square did go away and it lets me load the data but the game says its corrupted no matter how i add it. tried fixing it w save editor but it didnt work then i tried moving justb my miis to a new file but it still says its corrupted so i think inm just screwed atp lol. thank u for ur help

So the save editor didn't say the game was corrupted..?

Just to be clear, you're not running any mods, right? Are you sure the version you're running now is the same version you installed when you created that save data?

the save editor is really buggy on my end so im not sure. no mods, and yep, same version.

same thing (as in original post) happened again and i ran the steps u said and h2testw said it was ok then i added it back and its still broken,, sorry man LOLLL

so id downloaded a version that said it was EUR but it was actually the north american version which is why my files wouldnt open. i deleted the eur version and downloaded the us version and checkpoint shows a black square and the same error listed in the original post. loaded up the file in citra and it opened, so its just the issue with checkpoint now?

Well, if you're downloading stuff from unreliable sources, perhaps you should ask for support from whoever it is that's providing the files.

that isnt the issue??? the issue is checkpoint not displaying my game properly. the game is fine it works on my ds AND citra. the issue is checkpoint
