I know there is already a topic about this but does anyone have any other resources that are free or easily available via usenet or torrents?

I've tried rosetta stone but really didnt like its teaching methods. I've tried a few podcasts but has anyone got decent free podcasts? I wanna start of by learning the basics and slowly go up the stages. I need something that isnt too hard to complicate and explains itself simply.

I wanna study on the way to work or for a few hours after.

Any help please?

Thanks

Cheap, effective, easy.

Pick two.

The cheapest thing I can think of is buying Genki I and II (there are torrents of the books, but it will probably cost more to print them out then to just buy the darn things) and doing the lessons.

There is no easy way to effectively learn a language. It's a ton of work, or far more people would be speak more than one language.

Most online stuff is just targeted towards weeaboos who want to watch anime without subs and spout super-kawaii phrases rather than actually learn it for actual use, unfortunately (oh, don't forget people who play Japanese games! I myself am guilty of that). If you want the most effective way, take Japanese courses in college. Certainly the single best way of doing it, and if you're already going to college (or will be), you probably need a 101 level language course for gen ed anyhow. Kill two birds with one stone!

If you're not going to school, then you could always just buy the books... my classes used Nakama I and II for the first 4 semesters, and they did a great job. Of course, it's better to take the class and get the full immersion in the language for an hour each day, so maybe even enroll in just that one course at a local community college. They're there for a reason you know
