Gaming Changing Profiles?

How do I change Mii Profiles.
I have named the unit 'x' and created 2 mii's 'y' and 'z'.
When iplay mario kart 3d, my 'y' profile is used, which shows my best times and tracks beaten etc.
How do i switch over to the 'z' mii profile, so that profile can start their own progress in the game?

I don't think you can have separate profiles for two Miis of the same 3DS. They'll share the same stats.
