Gaming CFW question

its for compatibility ... Generally, just use the "game" Folder ... older homebrew use "game150" and I have never had to use the 5XX ...

Yes it's related to the Kernel required for different homebrew programs to work as they are coded differently. However, since the release of the Slim PSP a year and a bit ago most have moved away from the 1.50 kernel so it's more or less redundant, and the 1.50 add-on a bit pointless since there are plenty of alternatives to 1.50 only. There are one or two things you might lose access to but for the majority of people it won't mean anything.

thanks guys, y'all are quite helpful in the expansion of my PSP knowledge.

and so i pose another question =)

NesterJ_v1_07
DGEN_170_Lite
RIN_v1_32

they are emulators for NES, Genesis, and GB/GBC, respectively, correct?
do they support zipped roms? would be nice if they did.

To be honest I never tried a zipped rom but you may want to just try it ... lol ... or google...

And Xist, thanx for clarifying ... I am always to lazy to give a complete answer ... I tend to always give the gist of it...

hey, i just thought of something.

you can use the psp as the card reader when you make an MMS, right?

all i have is the usb data transfer cable, i dont have a memory stick reader.

if a separate card reader is needed, i may have to say a few naughty words, dig up some cash, and see what bestbuy has =(

hongkong postage website says my pandora batt and memory sticks, etc... are finally shipped today, yay!
now the endless anticipation of "5 to 14 days as quoted by the post office" and hope its closer to the 5...
but, alas its after christmas, so maybe shipping will be less congested.

*sigh*

-edit-
oh, and are iso/cso's region locked or some such nonsense?

yes you can use it to make the magic mem stick (I did and so did lots of others!) ...you don't need any special PRO DUO reader!

you can even use it when copying ISO/CSO files to it through the cable!

cso/iso are not region locked afaik but with CFW you can change the region in the RECOVERY MENU if you so desire

ok, thanks, im out of questions for the moment, but thats reassuring =)

ok, yet another question =)

i have PSP Pandora Deluxe v2.9. the readme says i need 1.50, 3.71, 3.80, 3.90, and 5.00 ofw's i have them, but what m33 files do i need? i have the 500m33-4 eboot file, do i need m33 files for 1.50, 3.71, 3.80, and 3.90?

thanks.

No all you need to have are the official Sony updates renamed and placed as directed. Pandora Deluxe has all the Custom firmware bit's 'n' pieces in it already.

yay! more question!

question 1:
2 kinds of themes, .ptf, and .ctf. is .ptf OFW, and .ctf is CFW?

question 2:
erm, what is the point of the "/psp/game" folder that the psp automatically puts on there? i have OFW 3.80

question 3:
what video codec does the psp allow on OFW? do you get other codecs with CFW?

1. The .ptf is just a simple drag-and-drop into the theme folder on the PSP. The .ctf themes are for use with the CXMB plugin. Install the plugin then drag and drop those in the theme folder as well. You can use both on a CFW, but only .ptf on official firmware.

2. the /psp/game folder is where demo's you downloaded from the PSN would go.

3. I think the PSP supports .mp4 on the OFW, but I am not sure if their are any other on the CFW.

Unless you install alternate software, no...CFW doesn't and any extra media capabilities.

aha! i have came up with another question! oh boys!

how does one make a dump. (not the kind in the bathroom, an iso dump of a umd)
Change the USB Device in the M33 VSH Menu to UMD Disc. Then connect to PC and dump.

Dont forget to wash your hands.

well, hopefully my dx junks will get here in the net couple of days.

meanwhile, i haz another question
happy.gif

can you download stuff using the default psp browser? with links2?
if so, what is the maximum bitrate the psp can download at.

*attempts not to die from teh anticipation*

The PSP uses 802.11b as it's WiFi standard. Therefore its maximum possible speed is 11mbps...although the chances of you ever seeing this are slim to none.
