Hacking CFW in 2020

Hello there! I'm relatively new to the modding scene. I just got my New 3DS XL and I'm considering to modify it. Although, I have a few questions:
1. How safe is it to install CFW into a 3DS as of 2020? Reading all the posts about banwaves and the like has made me quite paranoid. :-/
2. I'm looking to play Pokémon Platinum and I have an old R4 card that doesn't work on my New 3DS XL. Should I:
a) get a new R4 chip and move the MicroSD card from my old R4 chip to the new one
or
b) mod the 3DS so that it plays the old R4 card, which I believe works based on this method:
3. If I do decide to mod and play CIA games, will playing online result in getting banned? I'm not looking to cheat, just to trade and battle.
4. Are there any precautions to take so as to not get banned while using a CFW device?
5. Are there any reasons not to modify your device? If any.

The problem with youtube videos or videos in general is that often they are outdated and the software which is used changed or other methods are available. A text guide is more often the better choice.

Yep exactly the vast majority of site user's here will aways tell others never to use video guides for the above reasons. Plus a number of video guides have been known to actually be made to deliberately brick systems under the pretence of being hack guides.

To install twighlight menu just follow the guide on the twighlight link I posted previously. The guide is by the dev of twighlight.

No nintendo don't care about the 3ds anymore as previously stated you will only be banned nowadays for cheating online or as I forgot to meantion earlier you will be banned if you use a stolen credit card on the eshop. You would also probably get a visit from your local police force as well lol.
