Okay, this is my first time going to get my cavities filled. Now then, does anyone know how painful it is when they fill it? What exactly do they fill them up with?

they numb it
and the filling in part shouldnt hurt anyway, even if you werent numbed
its the drilling part that usually gets to people
and the drilling wont hurt since they numb it up

dont worry, it doesnt hurt..
or at least not at the dentist i go to

EDIT: lol i wrote should instead of shouldnt. sorry!

I liked it, I was nervous about it when I went in. He put the Novacaine in (it stings a little at first) and within 5 minutes it gets numb. After that he let me watch the whole procedure with a mirror it was awesome. I saw them clamp shit to my tooth and drill my tooth and than they put this small vaccum in your mouth to unmoist your mouth and keep the saliva out. It was pretty cool, I got a composite filling so he put this glop looking stuff on a toothpick and put it the huge hole in my tooth. Then he took some crazy light that was really bright to melt the composite together into a solid and then it was done.

Afterwards is the best when you get to play around with your mouth and you slur your words lulz.

Alot of people hate the dentist but I like it, I thought it was awesome too see what was going on.

I suggest you get the composite filling (white stuff). Avoid the metal filling. It can cause your tooth to crack. Hot and cold drinks will cause it to expand and contract which well lead to tooth crack. That what my dentist says.

I hate dentist. I had my last wisdom tooth pull and my dentist broke it. He turn completely white. Scared the hell out of me. I had to see their specialist to have it fixed. He took it out, there was no pain and they did not charge me.

Dude forget about the fillings. The fluoride at the end is the worst part of the whole experience. I almost throw up every time I go for a cleansing.

Your the first one to tell me this actually. Will the dentist let you choose what filling you want?

I think I had something like that happen back when I still had my baby teeth with fillings. I was in a hotel, and I had some pain in my tooth. A little later, bit, by bit, piece of metal, by piece of enamel, it came out. Good thing it wasn't a permanent tooth!

Just kidding, the dentist is nothing to worry about. My fiancee is a dental assistant and I get to hear all about the daily procedures from both ends. When I got the roof of my mouth numbed for upper wisdom teeth extraction, it didnt bother me one bit. Its all in your head

So I get to choose between composite and metal fillings? Really? But since you said composite is sensitive, that what ticks me off. Can anyone else choose which one is the best?
