I'm buying a 3DS for the games themselves, not because it's 3D. Most of the time it'll probably be turned off, I mean, I really like the 3D, but I'd rather be able to play comfortably and position the system wherever I want than have to hold it in one place and get shadowing if I move.

DOWNLOADING..THNKS A LOT
Wooow!!! it pops out
Bingo and we have a winner!!!! :P

I didn't know why people keep saying it only has depth 3d.
Well, at least you now know that you can see 3d...

agree that alot of people keep stating that 3d is only depth. why do people keep using the 3ds is like a window comment and that there is NO popout effect. its annoying because it is wrong. Since day one I keep hearing these comments. It just depends on how the developers use the 3d and they tend to use depth rather than popout because popout is more taxing on the eyes. There was an interview with the kid icarus 3ds director where he said something like popout on the 3ds tires his eyes out.

But since day one of the 3ds, there has been games that uses popout effects. Nintendog has depth and popout effects. When you choose your dog your dog protrudes out of the screen and licks you. In pilot wings there's depth but sometimes there is minimal popout. however if you look at the dioramas and zoom in at a certain angle for every single one of the dioramas there is EXTREME popout. For instance, a windmill will stick out of the screen, an airplane wing will protrude like an inch or more out of the screen, etc.

and finally you can convert your own 3d movies and for movies that popout, it will do the same on the 3ds.

1: Turn caps lock off
2: Turn 3D off. It's a useless feature anyway. All it does is drain your battery really fast.
It doenst drain the battery, the difference will be 30min max on a full charge, so I don't really call that "drain your battery really fast" 3DS don't need 3D effect to drain the battery really fast

dont listen to all the people saying the 3D effect is poinless :) i have found great uses for the 3D effect such as....well i probably cant say that on here but you get the idea.

The 3D effect isn't as obvious to some people. Some might not be able to see it at all. Just gotta get lucky!

I've heard some people got a broken 3DS slider.
If you look through the sides (45 degrees?) of the windows, are you able to see a ghosted image ?

You might want to check if someone else you know (preferably not from your family) can see the effect.

If nobody else can see, your 3DS is broken. If someone else can see and you can't, you might be Stereoblind :(

3D effect doesn't pop out like in a 3D movie/cinima. Instead its more concave like appearing into an aquarium. Depending on the game you do play it on, the 3D effect can be meh or amehzing.

All the 3D does is make objects appear to have more distance/depth. Thats it. It does nothing to help out with gameplay. Some may claim that it helps them during Mario Land, but they just suck too much at the game and only think it helps.

The best use of 3D on the system are often particle effects, like the pyreflies in Kokiri Forest in Ocarina, or the flare effects on Lava levels in Mario Land. I'd say the lasers in Starfox/Kid Icarus, but have yet to play either because one isn't out yet and the other lacks wifi.

lol'd

After realizing not only did you just basely contradicted yourself ( which you try to worm out of), but try to debunk it on typical baseless claim.

What proof do you have that good gamers aren't saying that the 3d help them? (Whether by a lot or just a little.)
Truly there was some places that 3d help with the jumping. While yes I could make them fairly without it, it still slightly help.

Sometimes I do wonder if 3d help people subconsciously, but that seem like too much of a stretch.

How did I contradict myself?

I said that 3D doesn't augment gameplay, and I said that anyone who thinks it does is just imagining it because they feel like they do better when their eyes are crossed.

I was sleepy when I wrote that,so it didn't come out as correctly, but basically you can't say "they think or imagine it" when they say it does effect gameplay
when it isn't really anything to backup that statement. Other words, you are posting baseless assumptions.

But it does popout like movie/cinema. In fact, every single game you listed had it. Mario, starfox, zelda, pilot wings (mostly on the dioramas), nanoassault, mario kart 7 (on replay videos), dead or alive, nintendogs, etc has it. It's just that developers mostly focus on depth in the game because it doesn't strain the eyes as much as popout does. But thats what they do in theaters too. Most movies just add depth and some popout effects.

anyways I don't want to get into the "3d affects gameplay arguement" because I don't really care. But I'll just say that when playing games like pilot wings or pushmo, I can play fine without 3d;but when I do turn on 3d, it's noticeably easier to play.

don't feel about. I can't see the 3d effect very well either. I don't have very good eyesight though, so maybe that's the problem. I just turn the effect off entirely since the games r good anyway. I think many do this anyway considering the sweetspot is so small and can be disorienting otherwise.
