    I'm trying to remember this really arcane file type. It had an "x" in it and is was used for music, but you needed a special player to listen to it because it was so wierd. Most of the music that had the extension was techno and electronic. Anyone have any ideas?

    Just googled the first half of your question, and that popped up.

    No, those don't help. I seem to remember though that they were called "download songs" or something like that. I can't say for sure, but I think...

    I just remembered.
    .XM
    It was Keygen Music. They would play it during a keygen or something like that. I've never used one, I just found out about it on youtube and loved them, but I forgot about it for a while.

    An example;

    Anyway, here's a link to a website that hosts keygen music.

    I PROMISE that there are no keygens or cracks available at this website.

    Thanks for the memory jog guys. Enjoy.

    They're called "tracker formats".
