Hi,

I'm a bit of a noob to all this 3DS hacking but I've managed to install CFW on my 8 year old sons 2DS XL (running firmware 11.11) using the 3ds.hacks.guide.

I downloaded the European decrypted version of the Mario Maker ROM, converted it to .CIA and installed it. So far so good.

However when I start the ROM it says "This software requires an update to the latest version to proceed". The only option I have is to press A for OK.

How do I update this ROM? Have I missed something when installing the CFW? I've Googled this but it hasn't turned up anything of use. It's not just this ROM either, other ROMS are doing the same thing. The ROMS work OK in Citra.

Can anyone offer any advice please? Thanks!

Just click OK

I should have said that after clicking OK, nothing happens. The message closes but no update happens.

WiFi on and connected to the internet?

Just because the ROMs work okay in Citra doesn't mean it will work on the 3DS, due to how different the both of them operate. If you can, try 'acquiring' a CIA that pertains to your region and reinstall instead of conversion.

You really should just find cias instead of roms. To run games on citra generally it's best to install all the stuff on a 3ds then dump the title to the sd card as specified on the citra website then play it from there. If you're not using citra this is still the best way as you'll be able to install updates and dlc as well and they require no conversions for use.
Also that font color is really hard to see for people using the dark theme here

Make sure you have the latest version of Luma3DS and B9S, using then launch the Luma3DS updater.
After updating B9S and Luma3DS, try going into System Settings and finding the System Update option.

Hi hakd88 - I have followed your suggestion. Luma and B9s were up to date. System update says "updating please wait" then system up do date. However, I still get the same error message when starting the game.

Hi PineappleGod - The .3ds file I acquired and converted is supposedly the European version so it should work as I'm in the UK. unless it's anti Brexit!

Hi MythicalData. As I've tried everything else I may well look to to see if I can find a random .cia file and try that. I'll have a look at the font colour!

Yep, all on and working!

Hi all - I've manage to sort this by downloading the .cia files from another site. Some of the files also come with updates to install and DLC files. Thanks to @MythicalData for for the suggestion and to everyone else who tried to help!

so long as the game your trying to update is the same as your 3ds region then it should update. unless things have changed?

Yes, it will update unless it is outside your console region, then it will get an error. It also works on pirated games too.
