Hacking Cannot run 9BootStrap on 2DS XL using R4 Gold and magnet

Been following this guide here, https://3ds.guide/installing-boot9strap-(ntrboot) Recently got an NTRboot flashed R4 Gold for my 2DS XL and according to the guide, I need to install 9boostrap, safehax, etc by triggering the magnet and then pressing a button combo. The problem is the guide isn't very clear on whether or not the system needs to be on first, or you press the combo when you trigger the sleep mode, etc.

1. Use the magnet to find the spot on your device where the sleep sensor is triggered
   • This step is not needed on the old 2DS (which has a sleep mode switch)
2. Power off your device
3. Insert your flashcart into your device
4. Place the magnet on your device to trigger the sleep sensor
   • On old 2DS, you should instead enable the sleep mode switch
5. Hold (Power) + (Start) + (Select) + (X) for several seconds, then release the buttons
   • It may take a few attempts to get this to work because the positioning is awkward
6. If the exploit was successful, you will have booted into SafeB9SInstaller

What am I doing wrong? Why is pressing the button combo only leading to the menu and/or sleep mode? Am I totally screwed? I don't want to damage my 2DS XL by constantly powering it off and on, forcing sleep on and off, you know how it is. The problem also is the magnet I have is unwieldy, but works, but I can't press the buttons on time, or something. What should I do? This is really starting to piss me off. My end goal is to use my NTRboot R4 Gold to install Luma 3DS CFW. Have to use NTRhax since 2DS XL has either 11.4 or 11.5. *sigh*.

turn console on
place magnet so it causes the console to go to sleep
shut the console down and make sure the magnet is put back in that same spot
hold the button combo then power up while still holding the buttons.

Everything needs to be in place and held before you hit power. Buttons, magnet, card; everything.

Make sure the magnet puts the 3ds to sleep and that it stays asleep. Then don't move it.

i failed too until i watched this youtube vid to see how one actually boots it

They should make it clear that you need the system turned on to find the sleep trigger. With the 2DSXL the sleep trigger is right below the X button. Once you find the sleep trigger, then turn off the system and start from there.
I personally use a high powered neodymium magnet that doesn't even have to touch the system to activate the sleep trigger.

But I did that, and it did nothing. This is the only magnet I can find that triggers it, but the problem is my fingers get in the way to where I can't press the combo

Did that, I could've sworn anyways. SD card and flashcart are in the system, I'll try to hold the other three buttons first, then hold the power button. That's what it sounds like I need to do.

Mine is right above the X button, it's weird, I wish the guide was more clear. I know where the trigger is, the problem is the magnet refuses to stay in place. I'll look around for another one.

thats sort of my point i took a random magnet off my fridge
(it barely worked on top of the console) then when i put it where he did in the video my console went into sleep mode allowing easy access to the buttons without bumping the magnets out of place potentially flubbing the exploit

you do it first with the power on to test the spot then with the power off to run the exploit btw

I didn't see any magnets in the video, and I can't tell if he's holding all three buttons then power, or holding two buttons. I don't understand French, so I don't know what he's even saying >.>

he has a circular one on the right side near (just below) the button pad (for me on a n3dsxl the spot seems to be directly right from the start/select buttons)
all 3 then add power until something happens then release

your magnet may still work on top if you really find the sweet spot . . . if you need help finding the sweet spot remember that sleep mode is triggered by the magnet in the right speaker so try to put your magnet where they line-up when you close the console

also if you have a broken speaker somewhere in your home then you have a strong magnet waiting

Nah, I don't want to cause any lasting harm to the hardware. Ultimate, my goal is to install this, then Luma 3DS CFW, and eventually, VC injects. I take it all these are pretty safe, right?

Yes, as long as you keep NAND backups it is perfectly safe.

honestly a magnet triggering sleep mode whether powered on or off wont damage the system as the systems own speaker triggers sleep mode regardless every time you close your 3ds

but those programs are pretty harmless

2. Press (L) + (Down) + (Select) at the same time to open the Rosalina menu
3. Select “Miscellaneous options”
4. Select “Switch the hb. title to the current app.”
5. Press (B) to continue
6. Press (B) to return to the Rosalina main menu
7. Press (B) to exit the Rosalina menu
8. Press (Home), then close Download Play
9. Launch the Download Play application
10. Your device should load OCS

But all it does is load the Homebrew menu. What the hell? I have wireless communication on. This guide is really pissing me off now.

Boot.3dsx is on the the SD card too, the one for OCS, but it launches the homebrew. Can I please pull my hair out yet?

There's supposed to be a DSP1 app, but there isn't. This guide sucks. I followed all those steps, but it launches the homebrew launcher, for some reason, and yes, I have the right 3DSX file in the SD card, so what gives?

Homebrew says "no apps available". The guide didn't even have a link to whatever OCS is.

anyway it sounds like you dont have the ocs file in correctly or its not correctly labeled it should be the only boot.3dsx on the root . . . try deleting the one you have and copying again

Did you? "Copy boot.3dsx (OCS) to the root of your SD card" in Section I - Prep Work?

There indeed is a link to OCS on the page you link (but the instructions you mentioned is on the next page, finalizing setup.
from what I understand OCS runs once and then replaces itself with the homebrew launcher after extracting all other homebrew apps.

if nothing else, you have hb launcher running now so you can just put any homebrew you want in the 3ds folder of your sdcard and launch them.
